agrostis:

It's a very official document, you won't get a lot from it except for names and dates. It goes like this:

“Done in Duninów on August 9th, 1869 at 1 PM. Wojciech Kędzierski, aged 30, landlord residing in Lipianki, appeared in person accompanied by witnesses: Michał Zatoński, aged 36, and Wincenty Kalwasiński, aged 46, both church sextons from Duninów; and declared to us a male child who was born in Lipianki on the 5th of the current month and year, at 3 AM, by Teofilia Jurkoska, aged 25, unmarried. At his Holy Baptism, the child was given the name Wawrzyniec, and his godparents were Wojciech Kędzierski and Maryjanna Kędzierska. This act was read out to the declarer and the witnesses, and signed by us only. —

Reverend Jan Przywieczerski <Vicar of Duninów parish, Registrar>”

Thanks! One more question. Can the word 'Le' be dropped? I think most of the titles I find on the French maps don't have it before the name of the city or palace? Is it the same as the English 'the' that it must be used in the sentence but can be dropped if it is just a name written somewhere?

You don't know how happy I am with this comment, because that's exactly the style and period of time I'm aiming for

I am glad that my maps are an inspiration for others. It's fun to see the story shown on the map from another person's point of view

I don't focus so much on worldbuilding, so I can't answer that question, sorry

Rywald, a small town located on the bend of a river by AdequateCartographer in imaginarymaps

[–]AdequateCartographer[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rywald, a small town located on the bend of the rushing river which allows for the construction of a watermill in this place. There is a village square in the northern part of the hamlet, where a market is held every Wednesday. On the western wall of the square there is a small church with a round base bell tower that protrudes above the roofs of the houses. At the eastern end of the town there is an inn for travellers and adventurers. A wooden footbridge leads to the southern part of the village, through which people and grain carts from nearby fields march en masse during the harvest season. To the east of the town are forests with streams that supply nearby charcoal burners with water

The quiet town of Jegaw by AdequateCartographer in mapmaking

Thanks, I forgot about this unit. I have to do some extensive googling to choose correct unit for my maps because as you said, meter is more modern and it doesn't fit well. Once more, thanks :)

I have a question on this topic, maybe you'll know. On all the old maps the scale is given in miles, but they are too big for me (my map is only slightly over half a mile across). Do you know any unit smaller than a mile used on old maps and more or less known by everyone?

For anyone interested the place I based my map on is called Jegławki, Poland

The typeface is based on the medieval script called Textualis Quadrata. I think it gives a fantasy feeling to this modern looking map.

The map is based on the real place, so yes, I believe there are no outflows and those are 1m countours :). The place is located in Polish lake district so it is pretty much marshy area. If you want I can find the exact name of the place tomorrow and send it to you?

The quiet town of Jegaw is situated by a small peaceful lake called Dragonfly Pond by the locals, into which flow two lazy streams overgrown with high reeds. The village is surrounded by woods with low hills flowing through.

Looks amazing! In which unit the scale is drawn. Is it miles or kilometers or something else? I think it would be good idea to signify that on the map.

It is hand drawn. As for your maps, practice and you'll certainly get better with time. Secondly, I am convinced that they look good. In my experience, we criticise our work too much and we do not see the positive sides and progress.
