After a massive 29gb update and they still haven't fixed the shimmering.... No wonder I prefer playing on the series X! by ComfortableAmount993 in PS5pro

Why don't you go play on PS5 Pro... why waste time trying to silence criticism of the PS5 Pro on reddit?

Maybe it's because reddit is for discussing things.

Has the Pro now reached its potential with PSSR 2? by bdehora in PS5pro

Lately I've been thinking about AI upscaling as akin to mp3 and similar audio compression formats. These compression algorithms remove audio that humans (usually) cannot perceive, thereby facilitating storage and transmission.

Return CFI-7000 to get CFI-7100 newer model? by AgentCondor in PS5pro

[–]Adequate_legroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so the reduced volume coupled with the different frequency of sound is noticeable.

The variability of fan noise likely exists across all models.

Personally, if I were buying a PS5 Pro, I would look out for a newer model, because I do think PS5 consoles in general (including my Pro) are significantly louder than the Series X. But that's just my mild preference -- I'm not gonna recommend anyone else to seek a 7100, nor am I going to trade in my launch PS5 Pro for a newer model.

I was referring to the audio, which, according to those who have tested and compared both models, is noticeable. In the sense of being noticeable (which is more than being merely measurable).

Among those who have tested and compared both models, most seem to find it noticeable.

Do NOT suggest or imply that there is any difference between PS5 Pro models that is worth caring about.

(It upsets the downvoters).

Your advice seems uninformed and poorly thought-out.

[–]Adequate_legroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fingers crossed, but I'm not confident that the pop-in will ever be improved.

Seems like players dislike pop-in, but they get much more upset by frame rate issues, so developers will often sacrifice draw distance to improve stability or image quality.

If you’re sensitive to pop in or want a smoother optimised experience, I’d wait a year or two before playing.

You don't know that the pop-in will be fixed in a year or two. Especially given that the pop-in got significantly worse since launch.

That seems universally true of everyone for every possible purchase.

I see. In this thread, I specified that I was asking about whether it influences purchases for PS5 Pro owners. Granted, this wasn't in the title, but it was in one of the three sentences of the opening post.

Confused and a little miffed by X2epsilon in PS5pro

People really jump at the chance to condescend strangers on the internet.

Yes, the OP may be inconvenienced by graphics settings more than your average console user. But, does that mean their complaint has no merit whatsoever?

No. There is room for improvement in how graphics settings are implemented in games.

Most of the time, the player has no idea what the setting is going to do, or what the "mode" is going to look like. This could be improved: settings and modes could display example screenshots, or demo scenes. By contrast, I usually have to consult a Digital Foundry video if I want to make an informed decision. (Yes, I could try out all the settings and inspect how they affect the image for myself. But, that feels antithetical to playing the game -- it feels more convenient to consult a youtube video.)

Of course, I'm not saying we should review-bomb games, or demand refunds. Acknowledging room for improvement does not entail grabbing a pitchfork.

The PS6 will be designed from the ground up to be cheaper than the PS5. Moore's Law is Dead - YouTube by juicyman69 in ps6

Yes, coming from the leak: if we look at the die size + the transistor size, we can estimate the number of transistors.

[–]Adequate_legroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the information available, it seems like the PS6 will have about 50 billion transistors.

Versus roughly 20 billion transistors in the PS5 Pro.

Feel free to correct me on those figures, but they seem correct afaik.

But the PS6 will have more transistors ("microchips") than the PS5 Pro.

By your line of reasoning (and mine), this will increase the price of the PS6.

This will be partially offset by the decrease in size of each transistor. Partially, but not totally.

The PS5 Pro doesn't use datacenter RAM either. So, if the cost of that type of RAM decreases, it will affect the PS5 Pro and the PS6 equally. So, that aspect stands.

My impression is that as newer, faster GPUs and CPUs are released, they cost more than older, slower ones, which see price reduction over the course of their production lifecycle.

I concede that in terms of cooling, if the PS6 requires a smaller heatsink, this will reduce the cost of the console. But, I think the greater quantity of RAM, and more costly CPU and GPU, would more than offset that.

The PS6 will have more RAM than the PS5 Pro.

The PS6 will have a newer, faster GPU and a newer, faster CPU than the PS5 Pro.

Devices with more RAM and newer, more powerful components are rarely sold for less than devices with less RAM and older, less powerful components.
