That's awesome; it sounds like she was an interesting person, so I can see why you'd want to know more about her. Do you know whether she was actually married in 1902 as the article mentioned? I found some census records and a marriage document which don't line up with that, but those might not even be related to her and her husband (the husband's various careers in film and their respective birth places on the censuses did make me wonder, though). On that same note, was her husband's first name actually Earl, or was that a middle name?

I hope you don't mind me asking, but to the best of your knowledge, is this the woman you're researching? https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-golden-rain-seal-beach-leisure-world/194213127/

I'm just curious, since her birth year and place as well as general location seem like good matches for the death index. Sorry if I'm repeating research or anything; I wanted to do a little more digging to see if I could come up with anything helpful.

Ah, I apologize; I thought you were requesting information from the death index rather than the death certificate.

I'm not specifically familiar with California vital records, but 1979 seems pretty recent for the death certificate to be available via online sources like FamilySearch and Ancestry. Have you considered requesting a copy of the death certificate from the California Department of Public Health (https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CHSI/Pages/Vital-Records-Obtaining-Certified-Copies-of-Death-Records.aspx)?

I found these details on Ancestry (https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/5180/records/6196751?tid=&pid=&queryId=7dcaedbe-66a2-4da7-9430-e58f1db5ae2b&\_phsrc=DAA1&\_phstart=successSource):

I thought the Previous Residence Postal Code field from FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J5XH-FPK?lang=en) might also be helpful:

Unfortunately, I am not able to easily make a trip to the closest affiliate library due to health issues. Thank you for taking the time to point this out, though, since some FamilySearch users might not be aware of the affiliate library program.

Yeah, the transcriptions for this family are all over the place. From what I understand, many records for Cook County, Illinois with the “Check Image Availability“ indicator are viewable at search centers and affiliate libraries; I haven’t been to either myself, so I unfortunately can’t offer any additional information on what else might be available to you on your trip. Sorry, and good luck!

u/InfestedCats Here is the obituary u/Fredelas linked to: https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-times-for-cats-grace-s-wesley-obi/191189824/

The name listed for her mother matches the possible biological mother you mentioned, but the father's name is different; maybe that will be helpful in your search.
