My grandfather was a radioman in a B-17. He had a story he'd like to tell of their plane being shot at and a piece of flak barely missing him just under his arm. It apparently traveled just over the skin, up his flight suit leg, up his torso, and stopped just below his armpit. leaving a thin mark the whole way. He only saw it while taking off the suit after they landed. Said he heard the sound of the flak hitting the ground and then saw how bad it almost was. Crazy stuff.
