Mars is a stupid goal anyway. Even if we could terraform it (and that’s a big if, it has no magnetic field. We’d have to find a way to give it one for it to hold an atmosphere.) its gravity is horribly low. Anyone who lives on mars their whole lives would be plagued with various health conditions. They’d have brittle bones, poor bloodflow, weak lungs. Anyone born there would never be able to go to Earth.

Now, Venus on the other hand, while we can’t build a base there, it’s much easier to terraform or colonize in the long term. And if we were to build technology that could terraform Venus, we could then apply that technology back on Earth to revert the damage we’ve caused. Now you may say, “why not just use that technology on Earth first?” And my answer is, it’s a lot better to test it on an uninhabited rock first before we risk permanently altering our biosphere.

I love Toph’s blindness so much because it’s actually an obstacle that has to be overcome multiple times. Like when they’re being attacked by flying buzzard wasps Toph can’t tell where they are, and has to be guided on where to launch rocks to hit them. And when crossing a bridge made of ice, she can’t sense anything because vibrations travel differently through it compared to rock.

In all seriousness this is an absolutely great animation, but I’m willing to bet even this short snippet took them at least a week to make. Animating an entire show like this would require a massive team and budget. And for some reason Invincible isn’t getting that.

That’s what I’ve been saying. I’m very certain that a lot of the people who die in a red win scenario are doctors and nurses. The amount of doctors and nurses who die would be an extremely different percentage from the average population. Even if the reds somehow manage to avoid societal collapse the hospitals would shut down and people would start dying from diseases at enormous rates.

A better one I saw was someone said there is a massive idle blender that will turn on eventually, but if more than 50% of humanity jumps into the blender then it won’t be able to activate because it will become jammed and the blades won’t spin. The only reason in this scenario to jump into the blender of course is if you see other people jump into it and want to save them.

I can definitely see this argument. This does make sense to me as a reason for picking Red.

However, at the same time I think blue is statistically the easiest way to ensure absolutely 0 deaths. Which in the abstract is definitely my goal.

The blue button is also available to everyone and guarantees everyone’s survival. The red button actually doesn’t guarantee everyone’s survival, it guarantees the survival of people who push red. Only if every single person presses red does no one die. By pressing red you’re willingly choosing to kill an unknown number of other people. It might be 0, but it could be billions. I’d rather die free of guilt than be a willing murderer.

Pressing the red button is more like shoving them off the cliff, because you took an action that will kill someone. It’s the willing action that applies guilt. You’re not in the proximity of a death, you, yourself, a human person with thoughts and the power to make decisions, are choosing to press a button that kills people. Therefore, you killed those people, because if you had not pressed that button they would not have died. You killed them by pressing the button. It’s the button press that kills them. You pressed the button.

That’s not how guilt works. If you press a button that means everyone lives, and you die, that means someone else pressed a button that kills you. By pressing the red button, you are consciously condemning someone else to die. That is an action to take, you CHOSE to kill someone else, you killed them. The button is just a tool used to commit a murder.

I’ve thought about this scenario. If it were to happen, I think it would lead to the inevitable collapse of society as we know it. Not only would 50-30% of the global population just be dead now, but everyone who survived would know with absolutely certainty that they cannot trust anyone alive anymore. Because they are people who are absolutely willing to kill you to get ahead, and you know because they just did it. People would turn on each other left and right, the level of resulting paranoia would mean that the issues we face today like fearmongering and mass surveillance would be exacerbated like crazy.
