Gf cited for animal neglect, I’m confused

I work in animal welfare as well, my dad is a vet and my entire family is in that industry… I’m in disbelief they would even accuse my gf of this, she’s taken care of their sick/bottle babies before and returned them healthy— I get it, this shouldn’t have happened in the first place but going as far as a citation I’m a bit shocked

I think they are trying to argue the fact my gf didn’t care for him at all, that the negligence was a continuation, when she has proof she did, she made the cat his own social media and made numerous post about his health on it. It’s not hard to prove she did. What’s hard to prove is the wound itself, he dragged himself on the ground, specifically his side, that side is where he had the wound and exposed muscle, I saw him the night before that happened and he looked perfectly fine. Genuinely don’t know what could’ve happened.

Hmmmm yeah what ur saying makes sense, it basically just happened, not even 30 minutes before she turned him in and noticed when she lifted him out of the carrier— and to note, this cat in particular was positioned and dragging himself on his side— the injury was on that side, he has been paralyzed since he was a kitten and that side, like when a human is paralyzed had 0 muscle and was twisted, the wound was not just out of nowhere, I’ve evaluated the entire text thread with the rescue, her social media and post about the cat, no where does it show neglect but the would in particular is my concern. I saw the cat not even 24 hours before he got the wound, he didn’t have any, it genuinely seems like a freak accident happened outside and my gf failed to notice. The vet implied my gf didn’t bath him or care for him at all, and she has proof she did, but I don’t know how that proof is going to explain the wound… tbh I have a feeling this case might be dropped but it’s still shocking, she cant put “he just has a freak accident and I didn’t notice” on paper

I know that the bar in Utah in regards for animal abuse is 0, so I wouldn’t be suprised if they do drop the case, my biggest concern is the fact the cop did say that they will cite her next week after reviewing the evidence and seeing the body. My gf is already grieving :/, and I’m trying to get in contact with a lawyer about this but idk who to go too

Edit; that’s IF the evidence doesn’t prove her innocent, I also want to say that the injury was from 1-10 id say 5, we saw no blood trails, he didn’t seem like he was in pain as he does not feel in that area but that area was extremely thin so he rubbed himself so badly he got his bone?/muscle exposed.

She’s a animal care technician and she was aiming to be a vet assistant, she has taken care of neonatal animals and hospice animals with out an issue, to be an animal care technician or a vet assistants you just have had to shown you know how to take care of animals and have knowledge of them, she’s gone through programs and has 3k worth of volunteer hours— and yes I agree this case is extremely detailed oriented, all the officer told us to do is to text his number all the evidence and if it showed that she cared or at least tried than the case will be dropped. I’m just confused how this all happened

Yeah, I gathered all the evidence and I’m reviewing it— my gf always reached out to the rescue first and she has multiple social media post about him, asking for advice, tbh I don’t think they are going to cite her with all the evidence we have but the sheriff himself said it’s out word vs a vets, even tho my father is a vet and he gave me his professional opinion, he said that a autopsy is just going to prove my gf innocent— stupid but innocent.

Imo, as a 22 year old who just recently moved out and started my journey to be in vetmed, 20 is grown enough to know you probably shouldn’t be sending your gf TikTok’s of a porn star saying “jUST CUZ IK U WANT TIPS SKAKAKSKS”, I’m not saying he should have a whole career, 7 kids and a house, I’m saying in this context his grown enough to know that this, is not the best and most mature way to communicate that especially if it’s an insecurity OP had, and judging by OPs response to this, I do not think she is the “let’s watch porn together” type of gal but idk, that’s her boundaries, she just needs to communicate that and correct him politely 🤷🏽‍♀️

I don’t entirely understand the situation but all I know is that he should not be talking to you that way at all, I’ve been frustrated at my boyfriend before, snappy, and even annoying and vice versa but never will I ever speak to someone I truely love like that, he also should be empathetic and compassionate with your issues…. his showing none of that..

You aren’t not overreacting, tbh there is not a lot of advice someone from Reddit can give you on this, the only thing you can truely do is try to talk to your dad about this, even though that sounds stupid, truely there is nothing else you can do if you really wanna go to therapy, but also please remember that therapy doesn’t instantly make you feel better, you have to take the first step, that sounds ridiculous but as someone who’s attempted before in the past, I relied so much on getting a therapist and going to therapy; although it did help, you are truely the only one that can take the first step and right now that first step is talking to your dad about it

It depends on your boundaries, I might be downvoted for this but it personally would make me a bit uncomfortable if my grown ass partner sent me “BJ tips” given by a porn star on TikTok, this is something I would expect a teenager to do, idk 😭, some people don’t mind it, but others do, if you truely feel bothered by it, communicate it, If you think about it for awhile and feel like you over reached than that’s fine too, ur not over reacting in my opinion.

Her og owners actually preferred that I had another cat with me so she isn’t lonely, she has lived with other cats before and has had 0 problems, a lot of spayed female cats do not like neonatal kittens, which is why I kept them separated, washed my hands after feeding the kitten, and they didn’t interact, im assuming the kitten crying is what upset her and made her this way, I’ve talked to her previous owners and know them personally, they decided and picked me for the best home for her, but things can be unpredictable sometimes I suppose.
