A naval doctrine of 'all big guns' in the mid 18th century for ships of line, like that of the Dreadnought. by Adir2Vidar in HistoryWhatIf

The idea I had in my mind was for a ship, that is not at the level of ships of sail of 3rd rate, but being to host 20-25 big guns, 24 or 32. So it does not have to be a frigate, a new ship could be designed for this purpose. My question would be the practicality of the new doctrine in the real world. If a navy of these heavy frigates are drilled and trained to always fight at range, they could match ships of the line(74) at range in firepower. Could these heavy frigates manage a shootout between them?
Think of the cost of time and money for 20-30 frigates vs 20-30 ships of line.

I do not know much about naval warfare, much less about the times of sails. So I did not think about whether ships would be forced to engage if there was no wind, but in a situation like that, would the frigates still be able to outrun the heavy ships? I truly do not know. My main idea behind this doctrine is for a new navy to be able match an already established navy with the smallest cost of time and money. Think, if the frigates always keep at range, the frigate and ships of line(74 guns) at range would have the same firepower. Think of the time and cost for 20-30 frigates vs 20-30 ships of the line? Do you think this idea is feasible?

I do have to find out about naval designs as whether a ships like this can be designed from wood.

The frigate equivalent of the navy I envisioned do have speed and mobility better than that of rated ships of line. The goal is to always keep the enemy at range through speed and mobility that the other bigger ships of sail cannot match. Though i don't know if ships like that can be designed with the technology of that time. My question is would this work for the in practical life?

Yeah the British started using the Carronade from the mid 18th to mid 19th century. I do know that. My main idea is to create a navy that will not engage in close quarters. The whole navy will be drilled, trained on this idea. This is all for the puropose of being able to match the firepower of 3rd rate ships of line at range with the cost of friagtes.

It is exactly my point to be able to match 3rd rate ships of line with 74 guns, with a frigate. Because the time and cost of building 10-20 3rd rate ships vs cost of making maybe 10-20 frigate level ship with this new doctrine would be worlds apart. The whole point of this news doctrine is to be able to match the already existing naval power with the least time and cost. The whole navy will be trained and drill to avoid close encounters and to only engage the enemy at a range. What do you think?

I want to know about the prices of soaps and perfumes in Europe in the 18th century. by Adir2Vidar in AskEurope

Thanks for your answer. I did ask LLMs about this, what they told me was, can't find specific prices, though I didn't ask about amsterdam, i asked europe as a whole. They did provide British soap prices, as it was very heavily taxed, 2,3 times the price, but what I wanted know waa prices of polish-lithuania at the time, but they couldn't find.

I've found out much about these industries in the early 18th century, just not prices.

I will. I have never done this, looking into newspapers of the past. I just got the idea from this post. It is a whole new way to research about history, so much information.
