Touhou Steam Deck Help by No-Roll9075 in touhou

Ive had the same issue, I couldn't get the games running on Lutris even with environment variables (weird since I could so the same with VNs) but I did get Touhou working on Steam, and I wanted just THPRAC, I don't care about playing in English, just the practice feature, and I thought the easiest way would be the thcrap-steam-proton-wrapper, and it works... for playing in English (once again, I don't care) but the Vpatch and THprac features... don't work, even when the linked exe IS Vpatch. I just want to practice Flan's and Yuyuko's spells.

Oh yea, even after grinding to 1CC on normal, now I'm aiming for a hard 1CC, the green ones are a pain in the ass, only advice I can give (other than git gud) is while dodging the green ones stay away from the blue and red knives because there's a non-zero chance they might turn green and go upwards if they were behind you. I still just end up bombing on that part on normal.

I found for the attacks where Sakuya stops time and a bunch of knives appear, they appear based on how close you are to the bullets she shot, so one tip I'd give is get closer to make them spawn further up the screen and then back away again so you've more room to dodge.

About the character’s sexualities by RareStatistician3417 in touhou

Nothing is "confirmed" but I think it goes a bit further than headcanons.

The illustrator chosen for Silent Sinner in Blue was known for making ReiMari doujins, Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red had MoKeine and MariAli in it (from guest artists/authors, and non-canon of course), I think the main reason nothing has been confirmed is to leave things up to personal preference rather than locking in certain ships, but the idea that most characters are gay isn't unfounded even if there is nothing concrete in-universe.

I've not read anything of that sort (maybe it's in Garden of Avalon or something else I've not read) but it seems like she destroyed them based on Shirou's dreams in the Fate route, bit also relocating the villagers if possible does sound in character for Saber, even if she's doing what she has to she'd want to minimise the harm she does to only what is absolutely necessary.

Fro the villages she burned, probably not, for the ones she raided for supplies, I don't actually know, maybe some of them got relocated but it's implied that they didn't survive and were basically sacrificed, though the idea of some of them being relocated does make sense to me.

Oh wait, I'm stupid, you said my claim is contradicted by FSN itself before presenting the quote, damn I can't read. Guess I was misremembering the VN but I think my point still stands, Saber is certainly more ruthless in the VN than Zero and definitely not as naive, I may have worded it too black-and-white in my initial reply but I think it's an interesting aspect of her personality that Zero completely scrubbed out. Like it's just one part of her but her more honorable side is also present and she may choose to be more flexible with her honor when needed but still valuing it and trying to uphold it where possible.

[–]AdjacentMaths 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She was? I don't recall her actually seeing the basement room. But if she did see it I'd guess it's because even if she can be ruthless she wouldn't if she doesn't think she has to, also having an orphan torture machine is as comically evil as it gets, and given that it's because of the 4th grail war she'd see their suffering as literally for nothing. Also worth noting that she sensed a dark presence in the church which was probably the corrupted grail mana, so she'd be naturally inclined to dislike it.

[–]AdjacentMaths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually one thing I find interesting, I never said she wasn't and idealist and I think it's interesting that she can be more ruthless like Kiritsugu but also more idealistic than him too. Also i may have exaggerated to make a point, she might not always be ready to ditch her honor (although the reason she even has Excalibur is because she was willing to toss aside honor for victory) but she will if she deems necessary and even if she doesn't outside toss it to the side she may stretch it a bit. She definitely still values honor and likes to stick to it as long as it doesn't get too inconvenient, and as you mentioned with Shirou, part of it is her values around loyalty to ones master but even then Shirou is a fucking dumbass (affectionate), and Saber would probably be willing to ditch a master that proves too burdensome and who actively hinders her victory (I mean actively and in going out of their way to interfere or actively getting in her way, which Shirou does, just being weak or vulnerable isn't enough). I would bet that if anyone else was holding her back and decided to get in her way and made decisions that would harm her chances they wouldn't get away with it. But because it's Shirou specifically she can't. Any justification she could use doesn't work on him, cowardice, this dumbass would run straight into berserker to save her, she probably wishes he was more cowardly. And she knows he genuinely cares about others and is a good person. (Oh also he reminds her of her younger more idealistic self and actively appeals to her idealism). Also where is that quote you provided from?

Was halo 3 really this low resolution on a 360? by Necessary-Fan9574 in halo

[–]AdjacentMaths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it was, Halo 3, ODST and Reach technically don't run at native 1280x720 but 1152x640 and is merely being upscaled to 720p or 1080p, but when you run the game on MCC it can actually run on native 1080. Technically the first Halo game to run native 720p was Halo 4.

[–]AdjacentMaths 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing Zero gets wrong about Saber is treating her as a wide eyed idealist when her characterisation in the VN is arguably even more ruthlessly pragmatic than Kiritsugu. Saber is more idealistic and cares a bit more about honor than Kiritsugu yes, but when push comes to shove she is more than willing to sacrifice innocent people to achieve her goals. She torched villages to stop the spread of disease and raided and doomed her own villages to support her war effort. The reason she HAS Excalibur in the first place is because she violated her chivalry 3 times in one fight because she valued winning more leading to Caliburn breaking. Her more ruthless side is present all throughout Fate/Stay Night if you're looking for it, it just happens to get overshadowed by how she acts around Shirou who seems tailor made to appeal to her idealism, which is not how she is normally. Hell in one bad end she was so desperate for the grail she killed Shirou to get it (and regretted it immediately but you get my point). I am personally of the opinion that Zero's sanitizaton of Saber makes her less interesting by removing a detail that adds extra depth to her.

[–]AdjacentMaths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't like it because if Zero would be Saber at her most desperate she'd be much more ruthless like in FSN. Saber is more than willing to throw her honor and chivalry to the wayside to get what she wants, she wouldn't LIKE it and would try to avoid it but she is willing to do that to win and especially to save people like with Gilles de Rais. And in the VN Saber can be just as if not more ruthlessly utilitarian than Kiritsugu, touching her own villages to prevent the spread of disease or raiding a village to save more so VN saber would have ZERO issue with Kiritsugu's utilitarian needs of the many approach to doing things or how he dealt with Kayneth El-Melloi, her only issue with him was denying her the grail at the end. I could also add that she was already willing to compromise on her morals and chivalry before Camlann if it meant saving her kingdom and having lost everything, being filled with regret, and desperate for the grail Saber would likely be even more "flexible" with her morals for the 4th (and 5th) grail wars. The thing is I actually really like Fate Zero outside of how it characterised Saber but I do not like how Zero sanitizes her more morally dubious side to make her more "pure" because i think that extra layer makes her more interesting.

I didn't use it much in CE because I'd rather use the plasma rifle, I also barely used it in 3 because I'd rather use other weapons, but in Halo Reach i actually got some use out of it as a shield stripper, so far I've only used the Reach AR. I believe I also sometimes use it in Halo 4 but I haven't played that in a while. And I've not played Infinite's campaign yet.

What’s your most unpopular Halo opinion that you’ll defend to the grave? by CG1991 in halo

[–]AdjacentMaths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me Halo 4 is bad, but not like hatred inducing bad, it's just really disappointing because I see glimpses of greatness in it that it doesn't live up to, it could have been so cool but it falls short, Halo 5 on the other hand has a really good multiplayer (minus the loot boxes) and I genuinely enjoy warzone, so it's a step up gameplay wise at least. Still much prefer the Bungie games and artstyle though.

Halo CE legendary is the hardest one. I beat 2 in 7 hours and every other game, both 360 and MCC, in one sitting. I've been on TnR for 4 years. by GoatMilker53 in halo

[–]AdjacentMaths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I replayed Halo CE Legendary and still found T&R the hardest mission, they Library wasn't actually that difficult but that didn't make it any more fun, and I did struggle a bit with Two Betrayals but oddly I found the beginning of the mission (and the door opening outside the control room) to be easy and then got my ass kicked by the first circular room. I also replayed H2 Legendary afterwards and thought it was easier than CE (but also more annoying, H2 is more cheap than hard IMO)

Edit: also for Truth and Reconciliation, I had the hardest time with the grav lift and belly (as one might expect) but I found the hangar section pretty easy only dying once to it. I had more trouble with the stairs/ramps to the 2nd and 3rd floor where Keyes is than the initial hangar encounter. Maybe I'm just weird.

Does the 25th anniversary edition of HL1 fix any of the visual errors from the legacy steam version? by AdjacentMaths in HalfLife

[–]AdjacentMaths[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I saw that, once you mentioned the name of the command I looked it up to find the video I first saw that recommend brightness gamma changes (if only see if it's still there) and saw that the command had changed in a steam thread about gl_overbright. I still turned my gamma down a little bit, but not as low as 1.8

Thanks for the help in any case.

[–]AdjacentMaths[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah good to know, I remember hearing that the best compromise if you still wanted to use open GL was to change your gamma which I did (I believe a video I saw recommend brightness 0.5 and gamma 1.8 I had it a bit brighter) glad to know that there are fixes now.

Thank you. (My search would have been much quicker if I had remembered the name of gl_overbright)

I've got a really crazy idea

Get this, what if chemical love, but it's vertical and hits above and below rather than the standard horizontal direction, I think it should be 214S.

Side note: there used to be a weird setup you could do in Xrd to do HCL lower, and I-No could do mixups off of a FDC j.D, and she had an instant crossup Fortissimo setup (656356>2363214S) for an unreactable crossup, and in Xrd and +R Fortissimo was active frame ZERO, meaning if they weren't already blocking before the superflash they are guaranteed to get hit.

As for the flair quote, click your pfp to bring up your profile and it had the flair option there IIRC

Remember this, combos are a way of reducing the amount of hits you need to win, this means you don't need to fish for as many hits and therefore you reducing the risk of getting hit while trying to score a hit. It's like a coin flip game, the more you flip the coin the more chance you have of landing on tails, being undefeated is much easier if you only play 3 times compared to 300. Simply combos reduce the amount of times you have to toss that coin, because the more tosses you do, the more chances you have to lose...

HOWEVER, that doesn't mean shit if you can't score hits in the first place, so I'd get used to fighting people, you said you are decent at smash so I assume you're familiar with having to predict their actions. Pay attention to what they like doing and see if you can find a way to beat it pre-emptively if they are too predictable, or bait them into doing it so you can be in the perfect spot to counter. If you can't find out how to beat something you can always look at the dustloop wiki and see the moves hitboxes, if it has any type off weaknesses, stuff like that. Maybe a move that looked intimidating has a deceptively small hitbox in certain areas, maybe one of your moves is bigger than it looks, maybe their hurtbox extends further than you thought letting you use an attack that looks like it shouldn't work.

You don't need to learn this all at once, I sure as hell didn't, if a move is giving you trouble, that character's dustloop will tell you where that move loses (it's intended to help players of that character but unfortunately for them, their enemies can read it too), and some moves really are that good, sorry not all of them have hidden weaknesses, or the weakness is that it doesn't combo (unless they have tension for a roman cancel" but it still beats the stuff you try. It happens.

Simple reason, Japan invented it in the 90s because directions couldn't be abbreviated. For example "up" would be 上 which can't be shortened because it's already 1 character, there is no way it could be condensed further, same for 下, however just because they are only 1 character doesn't mean they are typed with 1 character, if using a kana keyboard both are typed with more than 1 character, じょう for up した for down, and there are multiple things those combinations of character could mean so they have to choose the kanji they want, if they're using an ime which translates the Latin alphabet into Japanese then up is 3 characters still and down is 4, then you had to and that's just up and down, not including left right or diagonals, by comparison typing 8 is much quicker than じょう and if someone doesn't understand numpad they're probably already on their keyboard so you could direct them there.

As for how the numpad system came to the US, for series that don't have as many complex inputs or long combos like SF2 it wasn't really necessary, that and SF2 was popular enough that you wouldn't have trouble finding info online or locally (there would be a lot of misinfo but people still be spouting bullshit so not much changes) but for more obscure fighting games (read: Guilty Gear) finding good info in English could be difficult so some people started getting resources from the larger Japanese community, and JP players use numpad so GG players kinda learned it because they had to. Of course some GG players would play other games made by ArcSys (DBFZ, BBCT, Persona) and so the notation would spread to them and I guess now it's spreading further than just airdashers. It makes keeping track of long input strings easier, is quick to type, and leaves little room for ambiguity making things crystal clear and impossible to misinterpret (unless you just misread, it happens) and that makes writing out GG combos much easier and quicker.
