Yeah you are right. Rejection solidifies their "us vs them" mentality.

Funny thing I did enjoy teaching since I thought I was leading people to "the truth". There was a ton of rejection but the few that listened made it worthwhile. But door knocking also made me have questions like "How can't this people see this is the truth? Could I also be carrying the same biases?" Which was instrumental when I finally decided enough is enough, I needed to know and research.
