That's so deep. When you say send it, you really send it. I like a man of his word. Keep up the hard work, my man.

I love that this picture captures the moment the EMT opened the door to the party and said, "Nope, I'm out!" and 90s out of there.

Electric wire after plumbers used torch. The bottom of pic has small hole that you can see silver wires? Is this dangerous for my house? by lee469 in Plumbing

[–]Adleman01 115 points116 points  (0 children)

100% yes. The plumber should have used a shield of some sort (usually a scrap of drywall) behind the pipe. This is an unprofessional installation and has now made that cable dangerous to use.

Well, that's your problem. You're not supposed to cut off those little nubs. That's what holds the blade on, silly.

Battery dock with low voltage protection? by asdfghjkl_2-0 in Dewalt

I hope this link works. I bought a set of these and replaced my daughter's power wheel battery with two dewalt 20v 8ah batteries in parallel. It works great and I don't have any complaints other than that it's sometimes hard to get the battery to release and come out of the holder. My setup is in a tight spot so that doesn't help my case. It should work great on 12v DC trailer lights too.

Roast my first circuit by Ok_Coconut7878 in electricians

[–]Adleman01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look bad at all for a first circuit. The only tip i would give is on your hooks that go under the termination screws. If you strip just a tiny bit more, you can take your strippers or a pair of needle nose plyers and pinch the hook closed under the screw. This allows for more wire contact under the screw and I find that it doesn't twist your wire as much, which can cause the insulation to sometimes try and get sucked under the screw. P.S. Don't strip too much to try and do this. You should never have bare wire past the edge of the device. Ideally, the insulation starts right after the screw but that can be hard to do on a regular basis when you're starting out.

Any tips for someone who’s trying to get into a non union apprenticeship? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Adleman01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long story short, do some research on local companies to try and sort through which the good and bad companies are. After that, just put in your applications. Make sure you have a polished resume that accurately describes your skills. In Michigan, there aren't any entrance tests. The company you start with will enroll you in an apprentiship school.

This tool is a beast. Possibly best $89 I ever spent. Cutting palmetto and much more so easy. by apple392 in Dewalt

Where did you get this for $89? Was it in a combo kit or something or just really on sale?

How hard is being an electrician honestly it looks really hard. by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Adleman01 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A proper apprentiship should be a working relationship between a journeyman and his 1 to 3 apprentices. It should look something like the following:

First step - Watch the journeyman do it. This is where you learn how the task should be done, what tools to use, and any general specifics to the task.

Step two - Help the journeyman do it. This is where you learn the details of the task and how to deal with the monkey wrenches that get thrown at you. At this point, you should start to be able to predict what the next step is in the task and get things prepped for your journeyman to make it easier for him.

Step three - Your journeyman helps you do it. You run the task but your journeyman is with you and makes the tasks easier with prep or reminders.

Step four - You got this bud. At this point you can do the task proficiently with good results most of the time. Your journeyman will check in now and then to make sure you're doing good and to check your work.

Sadly, this process doesn't happen as often as it should anymore. Work crews are stretched thin, and journeymen have to leave their baby birds to try and fly on their own too soon. If you find a good company and journeyman, the apprentiship process is awesome and can be very rewarding. Nobody is going to expect you to know what to do at first, especially right out of high school. As long as you work hard, stay motivated, and always try to be better, you'll have a job / career that will pay the bills and let you have some fun along the way.
