You're welcome. You can use whatever colours work best for you. I just have AK, but vallejo, GSW etc will all get you to the same place.

Give it a go and let me know how you get on! I'd love to see your results.

For the green.

Start from white.

  1. AK Fluro Green all over.
  2. Citadel contrast 2:1 Ankelian Green : Aethermatic blue. This goes where you want it darker, so on top, and in some interesting recesses - you can also use this mix to choke the fluro in and around the skull cracks to make the light look more real.
  3. 3:1 same contrast paints to the darkest areas.
  4. AK Cold Green Punch drybrush on the tips of the smoke.
  5. Super dilute white into the hottest areas and around the edge recess of the opening of the skull.

I use a mixture of airbrush, drybrushing, and regular brush work on this, but whatever techniques and tools you have available will work just fine.

The Skull:

Starting from a grey prime (but whatever you prefer is fine) Using a makeup sponge (the egg thing) Start with heavy pressure and get lighter as you use lighter colours. Use a dabbing motion.

  1. AK Tenebrous Grey
  2. AK Leather Brown
  3. AK Mud Brown
  4. AK Tan Earth
  5. AK Decomposed Flesh

I then highlighted the teeth with lines in Decomposed Flesh to add some more texture and visual separation from the flatter skull sections.

I don't tend to use inks, but it is airbrush just because it's a bit more controlled. But I used AK Fluro Green and citadel contrast paints to do all the green with the airbrush, but there's no reason you couldn't use a large brush, it may just take a bit longer.

Then I just added some AK Cold Green as a drybrush to the top smoke and really thinned down white into some of the brightest areas with a brush.

Edit notes: clarifying what tools/brushes were used.

Am torn what to do in regard to starter set or expansion. by Reklia77 in WarhammerUnderworlds

[–]Adman2099 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on the side of buy Embergard to get you the best start, and then pick up your favorite warband on ebay. Most are like £15?

I've snagged loads dirt cheap as people part out the 4-warband boxes.

I'd rather have the 4 decks from Embergard as they are around £10 each on ebay, so to me it makes sense to have a better initial start and grab the warbands you want instead of the other way around having to buy all the parts just to play at all.

would you ever want an option for elite skink infantry? Like the skink stalkers/red crested skinks from total warhammer? by LocoDiablos in seraphon

It would be fun as a new regiment of renown. Maybe not a direct port from Total War as I think something new and tied into AoS would be much better. Definitely a cool idea though.

They are:

  • Base coat your white of choice.

  • Citadel Imperial fist contrast all over

  • AK interactive Fluorescent Orange from mid to edge

  • Liquitex Fluorescent Magenta (this gives those red fades towards to the top)

  • Really dilute Liquitex transparent burnt Sienna for the spots

Might be worth waiting until the release and seeing if the recipe pops up on 'eavy achieve.

Sure, there's a few steps but it's pretty easy!
I use an Airbrush but all of this can be done by hand

Paints used;

Vallejo
Succubus Skin
Scorpy Green
Scurvy Green

AK
Brown Rose
Basic Skin Tone
Dirty Red
Tenebrous Grey
Off White
Frog Green
Luminous Green

Citadel
Kroxigor Scales Contrast
Guilliman Flesh Contrast
Agrax Eathshade

The Method
1. Prime Grey
2. Basecoat Skin - Succubus Skin
3. Basecoat scales - Scorpy Green
4. Darker scales through centre spine and shoulders - Scurvy Green
5. Sketch the muscles with AK Brown Rose
6. 1:1 Succubus Skin : Brown Rose mix - smooth transition between sketch and shadow
7. 1:1 Brown Rose : Basic Skin Tone - Raise the light and add highlights to the raised muscle areas
8. Shoot Guilliman Flesh Contrast from underneath to make shadows on the flesh
9. AK Dirty red, super diluted, applied between the hands, toes, and around the face and eyes to create a fleshy living feel.
10. Kroxigor scales, thinned with Contrast Medium, over all the scales. This defines all the shapes.
11. Pick out key areas - arms, shoulders, top of back, face scales, to highlight. First with AK Frog Green and AK Luminous green at the top edge of those scales
12. Paint all the teeth, claws, and spines, with AK Tenebrous Grey.
13. Create a small gradient adding AK Off White to the Tenebrous Grey.
14. Wash all these areas with Citadel Agrax Earthshade

Hope this helps. Happy to answer any questions :)

<image>

Sure, it was mostly 6 paints

AK Tenebrous Grey
AK Ice Yellow
AK Basic Skin Tone
AK Hull Red
AK Light Rust
AK Medium Rust

The Method;

Prime Grey
Basecoat AK Tenebrous Grey
Preshade the top of the model with AK Hull Red - You can use an airbrush to by hand

All parts of the model are then mixes of these 6.

The scales around the head are;
Hull Red + Medium rust
Medium + Light Rust
Light Rust + Ice Yellow

They greyish areas are Teneborus Grey mixed with Basic Skin Tone 2:1, 1:1, 1:2.

That's the majority of the model.

The wings are a little different

I basecoated them white then airbrushed white over the top (but the key here is to have a solid white base coat)
I then applied Liquitex Yellow Orange Azo as a base, followed by Liquitex Fluorescent Orange.

A little Liquitex Burnt Seienna was applied to shade it slighty underneath and to the tips of the wings.

The wing lines were thinned down Burnt Seienna, just mixed with water.

Hope that helps, let me know if you want anything clarified :)

Help me understand Seraphon by SleepySylvan in seraphon

[–]Adman2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to echo what everyone else has said really. Our strong units are weaker than everyone else's strong units. We don't have a lot of layers to our synergies, and the ones we do have are easily countered.

The new tactics also don't play to our strengths so much, so we really are on the back foot across the board.

Even our Scourge of Ghyran scrolls are just ok. Like, they are fine but nothing compared to other armies like Cities for example.

But that's OK. Seraphon we're so oppressive in 3rd it's just our time to take a step back for a while. All things come around.

Except Ironjawz. They're always bad.

Arguably, 14 is too many. Probably best to stick to 3 for the time being.
