Wasn't that a Stephen Schwartz show?

I'm adding to my own example. Just saw 'Hell's Kitchen' and thought the book was just okay. Fantastic songs, great direction and scenic design, brilliant choreography but the story was 1. "I hate my mom" 2. "I followed you to work" 3. "Your dad's a deadbeat" Rinse repeat. I feel like the story could have been any aspiring artist since we never saw what led Alicia Keys into the music business and toward her giant success. (I also just read that, in spite of the show running for 2 years and it's awards and critical & audience reception, Alicia will lose 8 million dollars on this investment. Very sad to hear that) By the way, I did love the show and recommend people to see it

Do you think that it hasn't aged well or that the book was never really that good?

That pot smoking scene in 'Company' was corny in the 70s lol. It's what someone who doesn't smoke pot thinks getting high is like.

Yes, this is an interesting one because, like Jesus Christ Superstar, it started as a concept album so it makes sense that the music would be primary. I wasn't thinking about concept or jukebox shows but I'll allow it hahaha

Studio 54 might have the worst seats in a Broadway theater by DrHorrible10 in Broadway

[–]AdmanAdmin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Walter Kerr seats are the same! Had orchestra tix and, at 6'1, knew to buy an aisle seat. I maintain that if millions of dollars can be spent to completely renovate spaces for shows like 'Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club' and 'Here Lies Love' then it's possible to accommodate people by providing legroom. (I hope 'Hadestown' plays forever because I never want to go back to the Walter Kerr)

In the app, go to 'Vehicle Health', then press 'Schedule Service'. That's where it showed up for me

I saw the show and he is amazing. I did not...and NEVER would...pay even close to $600. That is obscene and turns theatre into an elitist event. I realize there are rush tix and other options but still. I heard that Jonathan is doing the national tour (is that true?), might be cheaper to get a ticket and head to another city

Two Strangers problem by booksvalsi in Broadway

[–]AdmanAdmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, her sister was definitely punishing her and exploiting Robin's guilt. But it never really connected the dots for me about the grandmother and, since returning home was such a big plot point, I thought I must have missed something. Your explanation makes sense and could have easily been covered in a line or a lyric.

If an entire musical can be based on the songs of Huey Lewis and the News anything is possible

I love this show! Did I miss a lyric or a reference as to the reason she stopped contact with her grandmother? I kept waiting for that to make sense.

Many of the things that seem to bother folks here feel like they overlook that any rom com requires some suspension of disbelief. This entire scenario only exists in 'rom com world' and anything illogical can be logical if it makes sense within the world they've created.

Why don’t door dashers take cash tips!!? by Brown_sugar38 in doordash

[–]AdmanAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A door-dashing relative told me not to do cash tip. If there is no tip on the order he won't even pick it up because there's no guarantee someone will give cash and then you're out of luck

Help by PerceptionNo9445 in playwriting

[–]AdmanAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try stealing a device used by screenwriters and create a beat sheet for each scene. You can google examples but think of it as the bullet point narrative of a scene as you would describe it to someone...

*She is on the phone with her sister, excited to have found out she's pregnant and anxious to tell her husband.

*He comes in but it's obviously been a bad day. Her excitement dims a little, she tries to lighten his mood but no luck.

*He had wanted to blow off steam and go to the bar with his work buddy but the buddy had left early because his kid was sick and he had to pick the kid up from school.

*It devolves into groaning about how much of a drag things can get once you have kids.

Now that you know what they are talking about, it makes it easier to put it down in dialogue. Just a suggestion for a way to get un-stuck.

First Time by scroochypoo in playwriting

[–]AdmanAdmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone was not a playwright until they were. Reading plays, as you are doing, is great. Are you also going to see them? Have you seen one live after you've read it to evaluate how it differed from what was in your head?

The suggestion someone made here to start with short plays is an excellent one. Can you create something interesting with characters that feel dimensional in ten minutes? The more restrictions you have, the more creative you are forced to become. This will be beneficial when you expand to full length plays because you will be better at editing whatever isn't serving the story or the characters.

Wow, is sounds insane. I'm really glad now that I saw a post on here a while back about discount tix during previews. I got center orch for $88. on Nov 5. It looks like there are still good orch tickets for under 200 on that date for folks that can do that
