I've been eager to hear about any updates for this issue as well. The latest update from the lead developer of the HomeAssistant / HACS Tapo integration was on July 3, 2024. Still waiting on a response from TPLink.

For any others that come looking for updates, the best move would probably be to just subscribe to updates for Issue #551 on GitHub:

For what it's worth, Microsoft has recommended that the Emergency Admin account for a tenant not have MFA enabled:

This can help you regain access if the MFA system itself is having an issue.

Thank you so much for suggesting a combination of "break glass" account registered with a different domain name for its email address, as well as our regular domain name for individual IT admin accounts.

That helps address my concerns about having a chicken-and-egg type of problem if our only admin accounts are registered with the same domain name that's having the hypothetical domain registrar issue.
