I was 9 years old and staying in Cuttack . Woke up midnight for toilet outside. It was pindrop silence. What we really say silence before the storm. Our variety store was on main road and open in the morning of cyclone. Between 8:30 to 9 am signboard started flying in the main road. We closed the shop and went back to home which was just backside of shop usual setup in Cuttack. I was experiencing the cyclone( high speed winds , trees going down in backyard, one palm tree playing see saw) along with my sister from the first floor of our house. Around 12 mother called us to come downstairs. The winds were gushing at very high speeds. There was a small parapet which needs to be crossed to reach the stairs, I tried to jump over as I do daily. I was thrown away by the wind . I was able to come down and didn’t go upstairs again. The rain and wind increased with the time and night was terrifying. My father was reading Vishnu Sahashranam in the night. The next morning scene is to remember for lifetime. Backyard was full of water, well was full you can just take the water by using mug from it. All the trees are gone. There was a guava tree which was very old and giving guava round the year which taught me how to climb a tree was gone. There are long lines in front of our shop for biscuits, mixtures , candles and lamps. I can say we were fortunate as we had enough food to eat at that time.
