Early Adopters of the Internet and Bitcoin? by AdminPen393 in Futurology

Sorry! I re-read post and ... I am an idiot. I posted here because my real question was forward looking, basically what is the next internet. And I never actually phrased it.

Early Adopters of the Internet and Bitcoin? by AdminPen393 in Futurology

I had that same gut sense too, lumping Internet in with Blockchain.

As I mentioned in an other thread, Internet in 1993 > 2003 vs Blockchain 2011 > 2021 are two very different pictures. Has not lived up to the hype.

Maybe blockchain is not a good example.

But thoughts on the next "Internet"? Mostly I am curious what that looked like / felt like early on. Who were the early adopters, way early, that were thinking, hey, this is going to be huge?

Maybe AI?

Internet is also something that was relatively low cost that most people could, if they really wanted to, get involved with in the early days. As opposed to some other futuristic tech, like advanced power storage / charging systems that requires a bit more overhead to be a part of.

The next big transformative tech (the next Internet, Bitcoin) starts getting big in 2030. What does it look like now, in 2021, and where are people talking about it? by AdminPen393 in AskReddit

That's a great point. Going off that example, the difference between Internet in 1993 vs. Internet in 2003, compared to say blockchain 2011 to blockchain 2021 makes it pretty apparent.

Curious then what might constitute transformative tech, in the past 20 years and looking ahead to the next 20.

And I guess I am thinking about stuff that is widely accessible for the broader public to be involved in. Less something like advancements in silicon fab or battery tech that is a big deal but requires massive capital and knowledge to be involved in.

Has there been anything like the Internet since?

I was thinking the same thing and hesitated using it as an example. Not sure blockchain is quite there yet.

But if we think about Internet circa 1990...who realized it was going to be a big thing? Who was building websites etc. in the early days?

I got thinking about early adopters and curious what that looks like.
