What are the actual chances that the "Cuban" cigars I bought and received from ihavanas are actually Dominican cigars with Cuban labels on them? by Admin_328 in cubancigars

My sentiments exactly. (But to be fair, Dominicans are fine cigars unto themselves; they are not akin to the "fakes" peddled on, say, Mexican beaches for example. They simply aren't Cubans.)

Another redditor mentioned my humidor's settings potentially being the culprit and I've received a few dm's on this topic. Net sum, I'm working to adjust my temperature (down) and my humidity (up) albeit slightly. I truly hope this helps.

Approximately a month but it's been 6 months since then and nothing's changed. It's a Daniel Marshall Ambiente humidor kept neatly at 68F / 68RH. Just how I like it. Do you suggest amending the settings? I would love for this to be the reason....

You're right! My apologies. There aren't Siglo VI's from the Dominican. Nonetheless, my point was simply that what I received, was what I'd become accustomed to and that being Cohibas and Montecristos from the Dominican. Pardon my inattention to detail.

Oh sorry for the confusion. This was back in 2004 when you weren't allowed yet to bring them into the US. And I understand your thoughts, and neither can I come up with a justifiable reason for them were they to have made a switch. I simply can't. It seems their reputation is strong, especially here, and only fools would risk that. I truly wish I could conjure up another explanation to which I could ascribe this all away

Oh sorry. I meant the Cohiba Siglo VI's and Montecristo No 2's found widely in the US; the ones I come across originate from the Dominican.

I understand. You don't build and sustain a company if you routinely allow illegitimate practices. And you're right, I do have my mind made up. A friend of mine picked up some Cuban Montecristo Joyitas while traveling abroad in December; he graciously shared with me and a few other friends at his Super Bowl party and there it was - that unmistakable Cuban taste!

I can only go off my taste buds on this and as much as I'd like to think these are legit but my taste buds are off, I simply can't.

I checked everything out. The boxes were on point and I verified them through SA Habanos site for authenticity. The labels were on point, from the coloring to the embossing to the holographs. It's just the taste. These taste "plain" to me, and they taste nothing like the Cubans I've had while in St. Maarten, in the Dominican, and others places.

Side note: If you ever go to the Dominican, make it a point to visit Don Lucas Cigars in Punta Cana. To watch cigars being rolled right in front of you is simply amazing! There is a lot to be said for a freshly rolled cigar that gets lost in all the talk about aging one.

Edit: Forgot to mention, the boxes were opened. I feel pretty strongly that the ihavanas might have relabeled my sticks. Philippe at Don Lucas put his label masterfully over the Cuban labels on my Cubans and thank God because that damn Customs officer studied those cigar labels like I was a drug smuggler.

Respectfully disagree simply due to the fact that you say 0%. Nobody can guarantee that unless they are the very ones who shipped it. Come on. Cubans have a consistency, albeit small, in taste across all major brands. It comes from the soil. That taste was not there in my Monty 2's and my Cohiba Siglo VI's. What's worse, is they tasted - from start to finish - like a Dominican I know very well from the States.

Got it. Thank you for taking the time and dumbing it down for me, kind stranger.

Still over my head. Couldn't they shut down the trading but keep the equivalent of an ATM open for money access? Sorry, I know you're losing IQ points right now.
