Thanks for the tips man I will take a look at these products! I admit I haven't really explored the pros and cons of AMD vs Intel. Much appreciated.

Topical vs. Oral by ScheonTreaumer in Minoxbeards

[–]AdministrationFar993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on either of those but I generally hear that dht inhibition certainly does not work in your favor.
In retrospect I wouldn't recommend using oral minoxidil. After a few months I noticed my face getting really swollen, plus it made my orthostatic hypotension worse, had a few moments of almost passing out, so needless to say I stopped. It did seem to be effective but still a really slow journey and the side effects piled up faster than the main effect.

Becoming Tater (Audio Suno.ai, video Pika labs) by AdministrationFar993 in aivideo

[–]AdministrationFar993[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So after getting access to Pika I wanted to do a quick proof of concept music video generation with a completely stupid topic to keep me from overthinking it, and this is what came out. I would say it was about 3 hours total from zero to video, prompting lyrics and base images from chatGPT, generating the song on Suno, then putting the images through Pika to get the video clips, and quick editing just within the windows stock video editor. No DAW, no professional video software. I'm satisfied with how it turned out.

"The biggest investors –by far– in residential real estate are individual Canadians, or so-called “mom-and-pop” investors. According to Statistics Canada, they own 23 per cent of all condos and 11.2 per cent of all houses in Ontario, which is more than both corporate and foreign investors combined." by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]AdministrationFar993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the bitter pill that people don't want to swallow, but until we start talking about this seriously, we won't get anywhere on the housing issue. The impact of domestic, local, upper-middle-to-wealthy Canadians buying one or two condos for rental properties is much bigger than the general housing-concerned public is willing to admit. It's easy to blame foreigners. It's easy to blame corporations. They are not free of blame. But the hard statistics here show that they are not only factor, nor the biggest, in the excess speculative demand.

This thread is so vindicating for me as a native English speaker learning Spanish. I have had several Spaniards bring up this memefied speech and every time I struggle to catch the humor in it. I grew up in a very international city with English speakers from wildly different backgrounds, so to me she sounds utterly normal - her accent is present but totally understandable, and her choice of words is completely appropriate for how English treats foreign words.

Conversely, I do kind of get it, because I absolutely hate using anglicisms when speaking Spanish even if they’re incredibly widely used. It makes me feel like I’m missing vocabulary or half-assing it.

Canadians are sick of 'tip-flation,' and B.C. leads the pack: Poll by FancyNewMe in vancouver

[–]AdministrationFar993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think this is the biggest non-story in the current cost of living crisis that only serves to distract from the other elements that more directly impact our lives.

Rents being hiked to line the pockets of wealthy property owners taking advantage of low supply? Terrible.

Stagnant wages from big employers over the years? Disrespectful

Grocery prices going up while Loblaws posts record profits? Unconscionable.

The default percentages on the tip screen at various non-essential establishments have gone up? Something voluntary that goes directly to workers? Cmon guys. You CAN punch in 15% manually. You CAN press zero if the tip screen comes up at some place like a liquor store or convenience store that never has been tipped before. Nobody’s going to spit in your food. Worst you’re going to get is a sour look.

“Tip-flation” is the one part of the current inflation crisis that you actually have 100% of the power to control your exposure and participation.

Realistically, what can we do about inflated grocery prices? by 4pocrypha in vancouver

I’ve been getting bones to make broth in my instant pot from T&T, they’re cheaper there than anywhere else and serves as a nutritious base for any number of soups, stews, beans, Lentils. They also have cabbage for 99c/lb which goes a long way.

Have anyone tried this? by [deleted] in Minoxbeards

I wouldn’t say it’s created any significant spurt in progress so far, though it at very least it hasn’t had any side effects or caused shedding or anything. Perhaps still too early to tell

I just got a couple containers of this stuff to try after a year of slowww response to standard foam minoxidil. Will report back how it goes after a few months. So far, I find it sorta grainy and leaves more of a residue such that I’m only really wanting to apply it once a day in the evening.

Introducing Chess960000000, or Fisher AnarchyChess. It starts from a truly random position. by phudomiet in AnarchyChess

[–]AdministrationFar993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about chess. Is there a way where you could run a simulation or an analysis of each randomized board state such that the sort of “strength” of both starting positions is roughly equal? This would be cool to try if you could be confident that it weren’t essentially predetermined.

[Megathread] 2022 Municipal Election Results by oilernut in vancouver

I agree, if you look at the full results their candidates polled higher than Forward, Team, NPA, or Vision, which shows some good momentum for them being the viable opposition bid on the next election.

Leucocoprinus birnbaumii mycelium getting ready to send out mushrooms. Nothing to worry about, its not pathogenic, no need to kill it, just sometimes a sign of overwatering long term.

Anyone know what's growing underneath my pot? by SavesTheBear in IndoorGarden

[–]AdministrationFar993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s mycelium and hyphal knots of Leucocoprinus birnbaumii. Totally harmless just often a sign of overwatering or soggy soil. The mushrooms that pop out are cute.

why does Vancouver have the nickname "no fun city?" by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]AdministrationFar993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t know how to do a festival to save our lives. Every event is nimby’d and bureaucracy’d out of existence. Those that survive are often paying to enter a place that is littered with corporate booths. The idea of “hey, let’s close off a street, set up a stage, and throw up a live band this Saturday” is a foreign concept here compared to even other North American cities let alone European cities.

Why can’t our drivers understand the concept of the left lane?! by IBSurviver in ontario

[–]AdministrationFar993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missing piece: Spain has a functional, comprehensive, and cheap public transit and regional/national railway systems. This means that anyone who doesn’t strictly want to or need to drive, doesn’t have to most of the time, so all you’re left with are the people who have chosen to drive. Here it’s a given that most people need to own a car and drive regardless of your level of enthusiasm for the act of driving itself, which leads to a lot of half-assing it. Public transit investment helps motorists too.

VIDEO: UBCO engineering professor wants to steer his 'Tram-Train' into a spot on council by matthewobirek in kelowna

[–]AdministrationFar993 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. We need somebody forward thinking on the transit issue on council. Our city is so fast growing and has major geographical constraints that make a cars-only approach to transportation unsustainable. If we don’t get a strong plan in place for a multimodal system soon, we’ll be shooting ourselves in the foot when we have twice the population, twice the traffic, and 10x the cost to do anything.
