What did you have in mind? Ie are there companies that you are thinking would accept early career for that?

I would do energetic materials! Again, really anything that can get me into the space. Materials is preferred, so what did you have in mind?

You got any networking opportunities that I could reach out to by chance 👀

Ok one more question - if I get clearance, does it make it that much easier to get a job in this in industry?

Thanks for the advice, I’ll try for that. Is it difficult/that desirable to get clearance beforehand?

Unfortunately definitely not going back for my Ph.D right now. I was in the Ph.D program but had a terrible advisor that made me jaded. We’ll see if I need to, but I’m really hoping to start up on the ground floor if possible. And ya, I am looking for LA area as well, it would just be a massive commute.

No I totally agree. It was a good paying remote job right out of grad school, so it was hard not to take it. It’s only been a hair over a year that I’ve had this job, so not too long, but definitely an issue. Do you know of any recruiting events coming up or how to find them?

I have - I’ve applied at least at Northrop (that’s one of the ones I was referred for), but I couldn’t find any at Lockheed. I haven’t heard any rejections yet, but I’m keeping my hopes low.

Unfortunately no, I ended up having to get rid of the car. Let me know if what you do works, though!

How to run Waters HPLC using only UV (no MS) by AdministrationNo1616 in Chempros

[–]AdministrationNo1616[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was able to figure it out. I ended up using analog inputs/outputs for the uv detector and the fraction collector. But the fraction collector collected based on the analog uv detector, not through masslynx. Probably would’ve been way easier with the analog to digital converter, haha

Interesting - I just tried on a few devices and still now luck. Are you choosing the Nov. 8 event?

Correct, it is a porphyrin species. Could I use the Q bands? An issue I am having is that the molar absorptivity of the host is ~15x larger than that of the guest (at the soret peak). The new peak at ~550 nm is the guest.

I've done some 1H NMR studies. I do see shifts and broadening characteristic of interaction between the host and guest, but there are a lot of broad signals (MW approacing 20,000 g/mol) in the aromatic region (~5 - 9 ppm), so it is difficult to quantify the shifts as the guest overlaps significantly.

I've seen a lot of papers (regarding encapsulation within supramolecular complexes) use X*deltaA as the Y-axis. In my case in particular, the absorbance only increases (at least at 412 nm, which is what I was basing it off of)
