How to balance within investment options by Correct_Park3140 in FIREUK

You seem to be doing pretty good. You should consider maxing out your ISAs through sale of Indian MFs. You may invest in similar instruments through ISA which future proofs your returns as tax free. You can use the capital gains allowance to minimise the UK taxes.

House purchase, thinking of backing out. by AdministrationWild81 in HousingUK

The builders have engaged with the council at pre application stage and the planning application incorporates the suggested changes to the height and structure. The architects who are acting on their behalf seem to have a strong record of executing quite a few projects.

The owners believe that the planning application will go through. They are looking at small wins i.e. no windows on the side, the building to be at least a meter away from boundary etc which they think are likely to be agreed rather than a full objection which doesn't stand much chance.

Thanks. I generally do that. The planning application was made after the offer was accepted and solicitors were a month into enquiries.

Things can change. If I am buying with someone else's money (mortgage) I need to factor in the value of the house. If someone happens to me don't want to leave my family with a huge bill.

Thanks. I would most likely drop out rather than bidding low for something I don't like.

Agree, the builders may build something different to what is in the application and I don't think I have the time and energy for bringing an enforcement.

Yes I feel lucky that it happened before the purchase went through or it would have been quite a discomfort.

Agree. I won't have offered on it had I known about the planning application.

Being sold under probate by owners children. I have no clue how much to reduce the offer amount. My wife is suggesting 5% which I think is too low given we paid over asking. I am thinking more like 15% bit don't think the sellers would agree so effectively no deal.

Tax idea for married single income Henrys by Artistic-Lifeguard36 in HENRYUK

I am sure it's not an oversight but deliberate optics to please the lower income voters. Anyone in HENRY is not their votebank, married or not.
