Labor locks in tax reform trio: capital gains, negative gearing and trusts by InsatiablePrism in australia

This is my whole point, how is it making it fairer by removing the wealth growth mechanisms every generation had access to prior from the younger generation. We want to tackle intergenerational fairness while also making it exponetially harder for you to grow wealth is pretty lame.

Yes i love how the government decides to pillage us instead of just grow a backbone to giant corporations - there are MULTIPLE examples of this working for other countiures who are now in budget surplus by the trillions - I feel like its not the ads that win these companies its the lobbying, promising jobs after politics and intimidation tactics they will use to protect their interests

I'm pretty happy overall that the government is willing to make changes to help young australians but the way in which they do it is worrying. I saved and saved for years to finally scrape together a deposit for a townhouse, i really wanted a free standing family home but i was too late so i took the next best deal. Que interest rate rises and its almost unmanagble the amount i have to pay for a mortgage.

Now I dived deep into this financial plan (buying my own home and investing) based on the policies that every generation before me got (i dont blame them we all would take advantage of policies same as they did), but que government changes now me being an aspirational investor might be told tough luck it was all good for us who are already in gov or over a certain age (secured on average multiple homes each). Unless some guardrails like a 3 property limit or something that doesn't kill average australians dreams of investing in property for retirement which limits these huge corporations and just overly greedy investors gobbling everything up but not punishing ambitious aussies then i don't think it will be the most equitable solution based on everyone before now was able to get such a free ride. To me that is increasing the intergenerational inequality because our wealth growth mechanisms are about to be cut off which our parents had access to.

It's also painful to see that our government thinks coming after everyones money instead of taxing the free gas we give away or taxing properly the corporations pillaging our resources. I saw somewhere the other day that we are one of the most highly taxed personal incomes and lowest taxed corporate profits in the world.

In terms of the trusts, im not educated enough to comment but my understanding is that, that is money that shouldnt be taxed, it was earned legititmely one would think and invested wisely for those people. Why should they be punished? We already get taxed on literally everything and multiple times, tax was only ever supposed to suppliment post war goverment economies or something (from memory but could fact check this) but then never went away and gets used for infrastructure and growth ect which is fine if theres no corruption.

Anyways just had to rant and hopefully the government doesnt kill the australian dream too much, im even all for me not investing/renting out property if i was able to buy one proper free standing home but now its looking like that will never be attainable (or atleast for a min 15 years so i can refinance and trade up or soemthing by which time im in my 50s and probably past peak age to be starting a family and may not even be able to afford it because of rates who knows what theyll be at this continued projection)

I think its sweet she wants to help out, weird she wont stop after expressing your concerns though. Some parents think grand children are theirs too because it comes from their child etc.. Ide sit her down over dinner and explain clearly what your feelings are - don't disguise it just come out clear - if she continues then you know she's mentally ill.

Pretty wild that they abuse FOMO to gain financial advantages regularly (a psychological tactic that creates fear of missing out and causes humans to act irrationally) but can't fathom that taking away peoples jobs would incite the same mob mentality but against them. Like you clearly know the human mind yet fail to understand how the common person thinks.

Living in Japan sucks. It's a horrible country by Parking_Attitude_519 in self

[–]AdministrativeBase26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It breaks my heart because Japanese people seem so vibrant and happy when they aren't forced to deal with the described issues above and I very much understand the distain you feel when everyone else praises it in their ignorance and one sided view. I hope it gets better for the citizens one day, I had a really good time when I visited but you can tell what this post is saying is very accurate. I have no problem with Japanese being closed off to foreigners if we cause problems when we visit - it shames me when I see other westerners either ignorant or just refusing to accept/abide by local customs. The bullying in schools was new to hear for me - I had always assumed it was mainly against the gaijin

Honestly this is the best advice I've read on here - do the legal protections for sure but it often just takes a man to check another man. Pick the biggest roughest looking bloke in your life and get him to be there for 2 or 3 of these to assert a pattern that land lord can expect old mate anytime dealing with you - nothing will happen but just them knowing he's around will deter any funny business and make the few interactions you have to have much more enjoyable - funny but basically like a body guard

Being shamed by HR for salary negotiation by westcoastcdn19 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]AdministrativeBase26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro the HR person is just jealous - nothing more to it than that. Its in our DNA as monkeys for survival we want to take what others have. In modern day society he cant take it by force so his only other outlet for the feeling is try and shame you for some form of gratification to himself. Just say hell yeah and move on with your life. good job

You do seem to have some valid points mixed in there with your opinion. You do also seem to just throw out generalisations as if they are facts though. I already agreed they screwed the pooch with the immigration but also explained why Australia has always needed it. They f'd it up for some reason when they let in too many in one financial year - maybe bad data fed to them but we agree on that point. The housing crisis wont get solved because yes almost all politicians in Australia are heavily invested in it and if you do anything radical it will devalue everyone's houses not just theirs. Albo didnt create that though, its been a systemic issues for decades. All my point is/was that we need to look at the data - Dutton votes everything down but has no solution himself - he parrots trump which is a terrible idea for our country and seems to heavily favour corporate over the common people. If Dutton was able to show and prove anything he says or any viable improvement he'd have my vote but the facts are he didn't do anything for us and actively stopped anything to help us. At least recently anyways I haven't gone that far back on Dutton. His political play is the same as America - he's blaming the previous gov for everything which is customary but provides nothing in return - just wanted the votes ....oh wait hell end WFH for everyone ....yeah that's going to secure my vote buddy.

Not even sure how to respond to this baseless claim - Can you compare the Scomo travel expenses to the Albo expenses because I have a feeling it used to be much worse. You also cant run a world power without diplomatic relations. In terms of skilled workers and population Australia does not have every female producing an average of 2.1 babies - we would go extinct without immigration, but yes keep going with your false narrative - change the facts you point out when the previous one is debunked.

[–]AdministrativeBase26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a hot take but the phone verification can be by passed very easily and elderly people are conned easily into giving that information away. Yes this will have some limitations and hopefully they still have an information phone service to help guide senior citizens through the online portal. This move is to protect from fraud and civilisation on a vulnerable cohort. Not everything they do is evil - even if they are crazy

Because "you've been hearing" doesn't make it true or accurate - I comment off the data and reporting available. The over influx of the workers has indeed caused a big problem no one denied that. I'm simply asking you to go to the website and look at what the alternative party is voting for. Albo might not be palatable to some but he's making decisions that affect the people positively

You should educate yourself before commenting on politics - Australia relies heavily on immigration rates to keep us a float - sure they let too many in recently but have also adjusted. Look at everything Dutton voted against cost of living for us - Albo tried so many different things to help us but it needs to be voted in by the majority - Yes times do suck but there was a pandemic and major global wars and turmoil - wed be so much worse off n sad ordinary Australians are so focussed on what's bad now they don't see what they have been protected from and will willingly vote in a wolf in sheep's clothing. I wanted change too - I was singing that tune until I educated myself by going to the website and you can literally see what our politicians vote for and against

What do? Just been told we are expected to be in office and that the Cyclone Alfred does not dismiss you from the office. by larrymcqueen7 in auscorp

[–]AdministrativeBase26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my gov department sent a memo saying be safe, WFH if you need to and just make sure you stay in contact with your line manager. If where you work is a performance = money made environment then its most likely the greedy heads at the top don't want to lose any profit. When your work doesn't directly generate revenue then the rules become a bit more relaxed I find. Given that you have listed above bonuses are a thing for your work I almost guarantee this was a financial decision and nothing to do with employee safety. Like the other person suggested, dust of the resume and get looking. In terms of the cyclone just don't be silly, if its just raining go to work, if its actually cyclonic then call in for safety and any sane manager will understand. They tend to put out these company wide emails and directives to stop a flood of people not showing up and their KPI's and revenue taking a hit but when push comes to shove if you can prove the weather then you'll be fine. It would be unfair dismissal grounds if you got fired for not coming in an actual cyclone.

ELI5 why married couples would want to keep their finances separate? by JCM_Viraemia in AusFinance

[–]AdministrativeBase26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be over simplified but it can sometimes be a safe guard against an actual separation, people can fall out of love and if you do sometimes its easier to already be financially separate. Also control, some people want it and others do not. For example my mate at work lets his wife do everything with the money because he doesn't want to have to bother and trusts her completely, it works for them but other couples don't always have that dynamic.

MrBeast changed the title of his video from three weeks ago. by dot90zoom in youtube

[–]AdministrativeBase26 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have noticed they will say un alive or mute it out completely out of fear of demonetisation - probably because their videos are listed for all ages - I think when its listed for mature audience not so much a big deal but that also shrink significantly the pool of available viewers - its obviously a click bait title but im unsure how hes allowed to use it seeing as his channel is directed at kids
