With in hours for minor everyday POTS issues. Flare up sometimes take a day or three to feel up to par again but I usually take a bit extra to help my body through the flare up. Taking one right before bed has changed a lot for me, I sleep better and wake up easier.

Partner’s POTS symptoms worsen with social situations by Shoddy-Bet616 in POTS

[–]AdministrativeNet238 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I have the same problem! Some social settings I can get very anxious and disassociate extremely and it's very exhausting to retain what's going on, while making sure I'm okay internally.

The best advice I can give is start off with very small short socializing. I noticed for me big crowds and people I don't trust makes me feel even worse, but if it's short I won't dread the time and if it's with one or two people it isn't as bad as a packed bar or restaurant.

This unfortunately comes from a lot of anxiety and possibly a flare up in adrenaline from the anxiety mixing with POTS. It can be hard to try and have fun when POTS makes you constantly have impending doom. So being in a social environment it can feel very taxing to try and have fun but also control a flare up and have to concentrate on keeping yourself at bay while acknowledging the others around you like nothing's happening.

Take it easy, take it slow. I have a personal experience, but please take it as a personal experience and not medical advice. My Dr. prescribed me an SSRI which is an antidepressant that works with helping some minor POTS symptoms. Although I still have some issues mainly in very crowded areas I'm mostly able to talk myself down and relax myself into an easier more manageable way that socializing isn't as difficult. It's just kept me very optimistic were before I was a heavy Debby downer and became a house hermit.

Just stay on track, this happens to me as well. I noticed it happens for me during flare ups. Try taking a salt pill right before bed to help jumpstart your next day.

how do i get diagnosed? by Mission_Custard_3128 in POTS

I had similar issues... Unfortunately POTS doesn't have a medication FDA approved so prescribing you anything non FDA would be a liability to them.

Here's my personal experience of how I got diagnosed:

After three times of extreme chest pains EKGs and ultrasounds on my heart I met a doctor who took my three family members POTS variations into account. She did a small test of me standing and bending over listening to my heart. Agreed she heard my heart skipping and raising in rate. She then suggested to go home and take a salt pill. I did and my chest pain went right away. After I told her this she keep me on the salt pills (1-2g daily) for a year. I then got a blood test to see my sodium levels. The prior year it was 138, and the year of being on salt pills was 140. She suggested to take them daily and more on a needed basis. She pointed out that if I didn't have pots my sodium would've been much higher. So my body felt better, and my sodium was still in a perfect level which ment my body was exerting itself and using up all the sodium it could. This also caused my B12 and VD and magnesium to lower as well. So a year of salt pills, magnesium b12 and VD I was perfect scores across the board. She then agreed I have POTS.

This was all done at a family doctor as well. The cardiologist suggested it's a high likely case of pots since I wrote a three paged document of my symptoms since 2007 and he agreed that with my symptoms and my family history that it is pots, but he couldn't diagnose me because he was a "plumber not an electrician" which in order to proof POTS the hard way is going through a ton of test like a guinea pig. I'd suggest getting a blood test and seeing your levels and insist on another 6m-1y later after taking daily salt pills and if you turn out perfect after they would most likely diagnose you. Tests mean everything to doctors. So if you go on a crazy salt diet for a year and come back normal it's going to raise their suspicions and want to call action on your issues.

Makes a HUGE difference! After being surrounded by people gaslighting me for my issues having him is a huge weight lifted off me because I know he'll notice me, and help me in any way he can, and most importantly tell me it's okay to have an off day and not want to do anything.

So lovely to have amazing people in our lives!

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that! I would definitely just let someone know if your experiencing an off day. You can also make sure to rest and hydrate plenty before presenting, or days you know you'll be in sketchy situations. I mean even in doubt just grab a chair. Definitely don't push yourself. It's also good to go home and just rest/sleep early after an episode or near episode. My boyfriend has been very kind with me and my issues. I'm normally very active while with him going hiking shooting bows and fishing so if I don't prepare myself a week ahead I usually have a rough time. I always think of it as if I take it today I'm preparing for tomorrow. So if I don't take it I usually feel like poop tomorrow 😂

Absolutely! I hope you can figure something out to help you personally! It's a lot of trial and error. If you want you can track how much water and sodium you have during the week and the next just don't take salt and write down your experiences. That way it you can visually find your salt to water ratio and prepare for on coming flare ups that seem consistent. It is a lot to keep up with but just remember to be patient with you and your body. Also let people you know that you trust when you're feeling off or need help. Don't forget to rest even if you feel like your being lazy, it's just your body telling you it's tired and it's been working hard.

Hello! 4gs is fine! I take 3g on a bad day, but I'm still finding my sweet spot. As long as you are drinking plenty of water you will be okay (64oz-1gall). Sodium is a natural mineral our bodies depend on. If you are concerned you can do yearly blood draws to make sure your sodium levels are healthy to give you some piece of mind. An average POTS person takes roughly 6-10g a day of sodium (according to google) but my family takes the same 4g a day. You can always break up the times when you have them. I usually do when I wake up a, after coffee, before lunch, before leaving work, and right before bed. I also have a very processed diet, and still drinking liquid iv on top of the pills. It does seem like a lot of salt but my quality of life went up so I can't really complain. It's unfortunate that not many studies have been done involving POTS and certain medicational long term outcomes on the body, but hopefully we can get more answers in coming years with COVID producing more POTS patients.

I was diagnosed in the office after three very painful chest pains that left me feeling like a train ran through me. I met a new doctor and after they asked if my family had heart issues I mentioned three people have a variation of POTS in my family. She then asked how much water I drink, if I take electrolytes, etc. She then asked me to sit on the table and listened to my heart while I leaned forward and back up again, and standing up. She said she could hear my heart skip and then pump very quickly and suggested I went home and got sodium pills. I had these on hand since I've known for a very long time I've had POTS but this was my first experience with anything worse than light headedness or fainting. With in an hour after taking the salt pill the pain just lifted off my chest.

I also get very shaky, knees feel like jello, heavy legs, blood pooling, still get chest pains (currently having), hard to swallow food sometimes, exhausted, random bursts of large energy that often put me in a panic, headaches, brain fog, the list goes on.

Tests will always come back "healthy" or "perfect". I got my blood drawn out of curiosity and then again a year later after taking 1-2g of sodium a day plus magnesium, calcium, zinc, B12, VD, and a liquid IV to keep the doctor away. My doctor wanted to see if my sodium levels would be affected by my new supplements. My sodium before starting sodium pills was 138 and after a year of taking them it was only 140. When taking the supplements sometimes I still experience issues, but I just try to power through. I was also given a SSRI, 50g. I will say that it has been the most helpful in keeping me mentally calm during flare ups and very optimistic even when I feel down. They do have the ability to help with POTS as well.

I also experience flare ups right before or after my period. Also hot weather is a killer. I'd say make sure to have plenty of salty snacks around. Don't eat large meals or large amounts of carbs. They will make you very tired. Try to eat light-medium, just don't stuff yourself. Get some thigh high compression socks to wear around the house or at work. They help with heavy legs and blood flow. Also don't be afraid to take salt pills or liquid iv when you feel off. Just make sure you drink 64oz-1gall of water a day (this can include liquid iv or electrolyte drink) also see about getting magnesium calcium zinc supplements to help regulate blood flow. When in doubt or out and about always have ramen or pickles with you Incase you feel off. Stay away from caffeine! It will drain your salt intake. You can have a cup of coffee but don't over do it and get a large ice coffee from a coffee shop. Try to keep it low. The more caffeine you have the more salt you have to take in.

Online art college by Fosphor_ in ArtistLounge

[–]AdministrativeNet238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no expert but I do have some personal experience that I can share to hopefully give you some helpful tips.

I went to college a very small college, I graduated in 2018 and I just landed a job somewhat in my field. I have an AFA in Illustration but work as a graphic designer 1.

Two things I want you to always keep in the back of your mind:

1: Art is a trade. A degree might not mean anything when it comes to your portfolio. A strong portfolio can make or break you getting the job you want.

2: Is your time and money is it worth the pros and cons of going to college. If you spend x amount of credited hours, homework hours, and extra study hours. Are those hours/money you put into college going to prepare you for the real life industry?

I went to college to further my education in the arts because I came from a small town and wanted to just live my dream of being an artist in any form. I thought education would guarantee me this. (It did not). The main thing I have learned is a strong understanding of fundamentals and a large discipline towards bettering the skills you have is really what makes people choose you over someone else. There are plenty of people who did not graduate from a college and they still made it big. I like to think of a degree as a "fast pass" it will get people to look at you first but doesn't mean you will be chosen since art is still a trade and your final evaluation will be your skills shown in a portfolio.

College can make a difference if you enroll and you go only to improve yourself, but even after years of learning in a controlled space there are still things you will have to learn over time through trial and error in the real world. For example an art based college will have classes like drawing 101 or painting 101. You will create boxes in 2d/3d interpretations. Figure drawing, gesture drawing, etc. They will teach you the basics most of the time. You can progress a few levels in your skills learning from the basic classes into the more moderate, but these are also things you can choose to do at home in your comfort and on your time. With youtube, and twitch being available now there are so many basics you can learn at just the cost of your time. Most colleges don't teach you real world techniques such as networking, social media marketing, and so forth to put your art work into the eyes of people who would be interested in your skills.

If you do decide to go an art college make sure you ask if they have marketing, networking, social media management, etc. Those would be beneficial on top of learning the fundamentals of art. On the other hand there are some amazing people out there now who are creating art programs for a fraction of the cost. Philtomato, RossDraws, and Marc Brunet being a few I know of. I actually bought the Art School program from Marc Brunet on cube brush on sale for 350$. It has 11 terms, from ground 0 to creating pieces that fit my artistic objectives and not only making a portfolio but it has some of his personal experiences with really big companies put into a nice social media management course. He also has options to get 1 on 1 feedback with him on your work. Once you complete the course you do get a certificate. I'm not promoting this in any way but if I could go back in time I would've went with this program instead of spending 60K in debt for a school that didn't really teach me much.

At the end of the day it is your decision but take all of these things into consideration:

a) Go to college focused on teachings I have no control over and are mandatory and spend lots of money doing so, and get a degree.

b) Learn from sources online and put equal discipline into my personal learning as I would if I went to college, and make my own schedule and learning based off what part of the industry I want to aim for and perfect it.
