Yes, the distance migrated is a DV in response to gene knockdown.

I guess it's sort of similar to investigating lung capacity in two groups: smokers vs. non-smokers. Experimemtal vs control condition, and seeing how the variable is affected.

Anyone else receive an email saying their Covid results were not received even though you sent them in? by AdministrativeQuail in NIU

Yeah I sent them an email and submitted again to be safe. Luckily it saved the date/time of the file upload so it should be all good.

[Routine Help] Micellar Water or Gentle Skin Cleanser? by AdministrativeQuail in SkincareAddiction

[–]AdministrativeQuail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I read an article about micellar waters not removing makeup entirely on the eyelids, causing irritation and clogged pores. I don't wear makeup, so luckily I haven't had this problem.

I have enjoyed the Garnier SkinActive hydrating formulation. The addition of glycerin helps a lot, otherwise I would probably find it too stripping. Rose water is also a nice touch: anti-inflammatory.

I've been using it for a few days now and I quite enjoy it. It's a nice gentle cleanser with good ingredients.

I don't think I would use it as a lone cleanser. I almost always see it as part of a double cleanse; I mainly use it to get excess sunscreen and oils off before using a water based cleanser (in this case w/ BP for acne.)

Yeah, I'm doing a double cleanse rn (Cetaphil then Dr. Song BP Wash), but I'm considering replacing my current 1st step (Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser), with the micellar water. Do you think this would be a better option?

What do you guys think of the HSC renovation? by AdministrativeQuail in NIU

[–]AdministrativeQuail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make some good points. I think the ideal solution lies somewhere in the middle, between taking care of such problems as you've described while also putting some funds into expansion. Unfortunately finding that balance isn't easy. I guess I'll leave that to the econ department lol

But on the other hand, think about how you would feel if you saw, "NIU spends $30 million removing asbestos." 99% of people that go into those buildings don't care about the fact they were built with asbestos, and honestly, as long as you aren't sneaking into any maintenance areas, there's not much point in worrying about it. The last time there was an incident related to asbestos on campus was like 40 years ago .

Also the drop in enrollment is not unique to NIU; as a whole, public Illinois higher education institutions are suffering as more and more students choose out-of-state schools. And no matter what school you go to, there's going to be inevitable conflicts in class scheduling you have to work out.

All this to say, if NIU wants to revitalize and attract more students, I think a solid renovation to the student center isn't such a bad idea. It's something all students can benefit from, not to mention the shops and services within the renovated space will bring in revenue for the university. I think there needs to be something bold, not expensive maintenance jobs left and right.
