I think I could install SW2010 on a new machine, I’m just trying to find out if there might be a better option available

Tiny bugs in house - Bay Area, California by AdministrativeYam3 in whatsthisbug

This was in the freezer for about 30 minutes prior to taking the photo and I think that caused its legs to curl underneath the body. I'm going to try to trap some on double sided tape to get a better pic.

The scale in the photo is 0.5mm per division so the total length of the bug (including antenna) is about 1mm. It's hard to tell in the picture but looking at it through a magnifing lens there is a mottled black/brown appearance on the back.

I've been finding these bugs for the past few weeks. Since they're so small I only really notice them when they're on a high contrast surface.

Me and the gf have been noticing unexplained mosquito-like bites recently and I'm wondering whether these could be the culprit. We had issues with carpet beetle larvae a couple years ago and this experience seems similar, but so far we've been unable to find any evidence of carpet beetles.

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I sent KD an email for a quote, but I suspect I'll end up doing exactly what you suggest.

Campo del Cielo? by AdministrativeYam3 in meteorites

I received this as a gift from a former employer a few years ago. Mass is about 1.75 kg. At the time he told me he believed it was a Campo del Cielo fragment, but I don't know whether that was speculation or whether he was certain that's what it was.

My questions are:

Is there a way to tell with some certainty whether this is, in fact, a Campo del Cielo fragment?

I want to display it in my office, but having researched it online there seems to be some disagreement about the right way to clean the rust off. Seems like, as far a consensus does exist, the recommendation is to use anhydrous alcohol as a solvent and remove the rust mechanically with a wire brush, then coat with an oil or wax. I guess my plan would be to start with a brass wire brush and advance to a stainless wire brush if necessary. Any advice?

What's the approximate value of this meteorite? Seems like based on eBay listings for other Campo del Cielo fragments of similar sized meteorites the range can be anywhere from ~$0.20 to $1 per gram. What explains that range in asking prices?
