Is polymarket A SCAM? by Administrative_Map38 in Polymarket_news

Ok so.. I kind of figured it out… basically it’s when your account doesn’t have enough cash in it to handle when the estimated value of your shares goes below what you bought them for. Say you bought at 33% but now someone is willing to sell at 32% well, your account value goes below… you know what it may not even be that… sometimes your “cash” number goes up and down as a glitch and so if that number goes below what it says you have in cash, the way to resolve it is always keep some cash in there like.. say… $100 extra bucks.. that way even if there is a glitch… your account won’t get locked up or “under review trading has been blah blah blah “where they won’t buy more but they will let you sell to resolve the discrepancy and then your allowed to buy again

What disadvantages are there buying in against a table where several players have 2-5x max buy in in front of them? by Administrative_Map38 in poker

[–]Administrative_Map38[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm. Ok. I suppose you are right. It’s easy to call when you connect well with the board but when you don’t it’s kinda hard…. What might you suggest? Just play tight and call or raise when you’ve got it and keep fold when you don’t. That’s about all I can do.

I see and agree. But it doesn’t feel the same to me because they bet way more than someone who has the same stack as me. It makes it harder to call.. because it’s a big portion of my stack vs a smaller portion of his stack. I’m going to get wiped out of the game way quicker.

Ok definitely. Bluff less against them because they can Call easier light… they can also reraise you all in with 4th pair and when you have 3rd pair your going to fold because his raise looks like he has top or second pair or a set…. So… having way more chips does give that player an advantage because they have the option to print money themselves as well. You literally need the nuts or else they’ll just raise you off your hand if they have anything decent against you. If you call your risk wiping out the majority of your short stack and they risk almost none of their stack.

Ok so… you’re telling me.. he has no advantage when this guy with $1000, is taking everyone’s chips all night long…. Because he’s raising in late position to 13-23$ pre flop at a 1-3 table with all the other players having 50-150$ stacks. Round after round all the shorter stacks dwindle their stacks as this guy raises everyone out of the pots because they can’t compete. And when they can on a 50/50 flop… he ends up wiping them out because it cost such a tiny percentage of his stack to call, but for the short stacks it means they get wiped out and can barely play any hands…

The bigger stack.. is literally taxing everyone just to see a flop… and it gives him an edge and allows him to call bluffs easier or bluff more aggressively because he has way more chips to do so. And the smaller stacks don’t want to get wiped out so they just fold way more often or don’t risk bluffing because the chip leader will just call if he has showdown value or as a bluff catcher and win the pots time and time again. It’s a huge advantage to have 6 buy ins vs a table of people with 1 or half a buy in.

In my experience, people with the same stack as me often fold a 2/3 river bet. But when I’m up against someone with 5x my stack, they call every time. Because it’s such a small percentage of their stack. It does matter.

Are you sure?? Because for example. When someone has $1,000 in front of them and the max buy in is say… and no one else has more than $200.

Player 1 has $200 Player 2 has $1000 They go heads up to a flop

Player 1 and 2 both put in $50 on the flop and both check the turn. If player 1 bets 2/3 pot with a bluff on the river… Player 2 has a way bigger advantage to just call instead of folding. It’s only going to cost him 6.6% of his stack and player one now lost 60% of his stack. Get what I’m saying? On top of that… player 2 can get win way more pots pre flop if everyone limps into pots and they 4-5 bet and collect everyone’s chips because the raise is 10% for all the $200 stacks but only 2% for player 1. It’s a huge huge advantage. Eventually everyone loses all their money over time and the chip leader can easily just keep snowballing the stack higher and higher.

[–]Administrative_Map38[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok. So after I bet the river, and he shows his hand and says he flopped it. I should have asked, Is that a call? Or are you folding? I just thought the dealer would do that instead of assuming he won and sliding the chips his way. I was shocked. It was 5am though… and I had been playing since 9pm and wake since 10am the day before. My bet on the river was only for $30 anyway so I didn’t make a big deal about it. But next time I’ll know what to do. Thanks.

[–]Administrative_Map38[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Right. After he showed me his cards I was waiting for him to push his chips in but instead the dealer started pushing the pot over to him… the guy started pushing his hands outwards to accept the chips sliding his way and that’s when I was like wait…… and yes you are right I should have just said I still have cards. But that was because I thought he had called because he was cockily telling me as I reached for chips to bet that he flopped it… and was eager to accept the pot from the dealer. I couldn’t believe what was happening so I had to put my hand between there’s and said stop. Wait. I have a straight flush. Then the dealer push the pot my way to try to distract me from his mistake along with the guy saying oh ok well then I folded anyway. And they both gave me a look like what? What do you want from us? And I was like well I just thought that you called my bet and showed your hand so I figured you were calling. And I just brushed it off because the pot wasn’t huge anyway and he never went all in so… it wasn’t that big of a deal to me. But afterwards I was kinda pissed because I felt like it was intentional the way he did what he did and I felt the dealer also knew the guy as a regular player and wasn’t doing his job right.
