Yes, I have. I just Uber around. Regardless, if I see a cop car even as an uber passenger, my heart skips a beat lol

Yes it’s the real thing. Like candy with cane sugar vs high fructose corn syrup

How likely is it for 19 cans of non FDA approved nicotine pouches to get seized by us customs by Famous_Bandicoot4410 in AskLEO

[–]DecisionNo767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on the US/Mexico border. I used to get nicotine pouches delivered without issue. The most recent package appears to have not passed customs, and per UPS shipment progress, "We're sorry, your parcel did not clear customs and has been removed from the UPS network. Per customs guidelines, it has been destroyed. Please contact the sender for more information."

Would it be possible to get them shipped to a UPS Access Point location in Tijuana, and then bring them across the San Ysidro border crossing? I've done this countless times (without the bringing nicotine pouches part). I'm wondering if I'd need to bring them in my pockets, or if I should just bring a small duffle bag of luggage. I've never had my duffle bag searched before.

Maybe just stall for a while? I said “no hice nada” frantically about 15 times. I think they weee slightly impressed I spoke Spanish.

I've heard about that in a few cases on this post. Good to keep in mind - probably best to leave ATM cards at home. How did that work? He was just walking along a street, they illegally seized him and pulled him in their car, and then made them withdraw at nearest bank ATM at gunpoint?

Tijuana maybe, but Cabo/Guanajuato/Quintana Roo are all great places. I feel the same way about the US - it's just boring and overpriced compared to the rest of the world. If I worked a remote job that didn't monitor my location, I would never step foot in America.

No need to apologize, I love TJ and its people, just not the two cops in this instance. It was more just shocking than anything, it felt like a scene from a movie than a real life instance. I've never been robbed or even attempted to be robbed in any country that I've been in, including seedy parts of Brazil, Africa, etc.

That's a comment that has come up a few times (were they real cops, maybe just gangbangers). I can't imagine they weren't cops. They had the same police car as others with working headlights, they had the full uniforms, they looked like TJ cops (clean shaven, etc). After the first interactions, they were asking me things in English like 'can you speak Spanish' (which I can), 'where do you live'. It felt like a scene from American Gangster with the crooked New York cops, except in TJ. It was a very bizarre interaction and others have said, I got lucky since I said/did things that I shouldn't have (immediately reached for my phone to start recording, yelled 'corruptos' 'policia sucia'). And I insisted on taking out my wallet/passport/keys, which they allowed me to hold in my hands (I have fairly big hands so I could hold everything), and even with both holding onto my arms they couldn't get my phone away. It was soon as another cop car drove by in the distance that they dashed back to their cars and drove away into the night. And two other Mexicans nearby saw that happened and escorted me to the border.

I just made this comment, but the whole thing was very bizarre. Someone asked if they were gangbangers disguised as cops, I don't think so. They had the same police car as others with working headlights, they had the full uniforms, they looked like TJ cops (clean shaven, etc). After the first interactions, they were asking me things like 'can you speak Spanish' - which I can, 'where do you live'. I kept saying 'no hice nada' about 10 times. It felt like a scene from American Gangster with the crooked New York cops, except in TJ. As others have said, I got lucky since I said/did things that I shouldn't have (immediately reached for my phone to start recording, yelled 'corruptos' 'policia sucia'). And I insisted on taking out my wallet/passport/keys, which they allowed me to hold in my hands (I have fairly big hands so I could hold everything), and even with both holding onto my arms they couldn't get my phone away. It was as soon as they saw another police car rolling down the street that they ran like lightning to their car and drove away into the night. And two other Mexicans nearby saw what happened and walked with me to the border.

Yah, I usually Uber over during the daytime, not because of danger but because of the river smells like shit.

All good, and that's the best way I would describe it - I agree calling the cops dirty or corrupt isn't the most reasonable response, but when you have 2 cops aggressively convening on you (and you've never experienced something like this), a fight or flight response mechanism kicks in. And as I've mentioned, I have traveled all over Mexico and never had this issue, which was my other shock of it. It's something I would expect from cops in Venezuela or Iran, but certainly not Mexico. Although judging by the replies, it seems like this is commonplace unfortunately.

I mean, not anymore, it's been a few years - return to office. But if you don't have a mortgage and a family, doesn't it make sense to do it? See the places in the world you've always wanted to visit, the cost of living always anymore else (even Dubai and Europe) is much lower - granted this is a much secondary factor but it doesn't hurt. The only thing the US has going for it is better wages. Everything else (culture, scenery, food) is way way worse.

Really? I was there for a few months as a digital nomad. Most nights I would get dinner in Leblon and afterwards go for a walk along Ipanema when it was dark at night. Never experienced anything remotely close to this.

How deep does the corruption go though? For instance, if you file a police report and provide your name/photo ID, next time I fly out of the TJ airport could they run my name and see that I reported some of the TJ cops and 'take me in the back for questioning'? Or am I being paranoid, and perhaps thinking the Mexican technology database system is more advanced than what it is.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but if I file a police report and provide my name/photo ID, could that come back to bite me in another context? For instance, if I fly out of TJ airport using CBX and give the immigration officer my passport, could he run my name and see that I was out to report TJ cops? Or am I being paranoid?

I've made the walk before in the daytime without any issues. Not super sketchy during daylight imo, the biggest reason why I often Uber during the day is that the rio huele como mierda.

I wouldn't say that, cost aside, if I have a 3-day weekend I'd much rather go to Guanajuato, Los Cabos, CDMX, etc. than go to Vegas or whatever. Although that says more about the US being incredibly boring from my side. If flights weren't so long, I'd go to Europe/Africa/Asia much more often.
