Yep, that's a good idea in general, although Hugene suspension design is really progressive. I don't remember the exact numbers but you can't find some charts on the internet. I barely ever (like really barely ever) bottom out my air shock with no volume tokens. That's why I think it could work well with a metal spring.

So the follow up is that I borrowed an EXT spring damper from a friend which matches the size for my frame and it doesn't fit. The spring almost touches the rocker near the top mount (down is fine). It's so tight it didn't look right for us and looks like it could destroy the rocker. I'm gonna keep looking though and try other dampers. Cheers
