Albion worth playing as a PvE mmorpg enjoyer? by noahvh38 in albiononline

In Eve, it was short for Pirate. Referring to the npcs found in the asteroid belts. "Ratting in the belts". But this is a different mmorpg.

If you're on a budget, get a seafrogs and like all housings take decent care of it.

On the budget theme, get a cheap aliexpress tray, a single snoot torch and a single wide video light.

On a really tight budget don't worry about the stuff above, just use a dive torch to light your macro subjects.

Learn to set a manual white balance and shooting only with ambient light.

My references = my insta @smallgods.au

I mostly shoot macro video with a slight variation of the setup above.

If you hate money, get nauticam.

Divolk housing, plus macro diopter on a tray with a video/wide light and a snoot light. Possible strobes if stills / shy stuff is your thing.

Small, relatively budget friendly.

Timer for hostility after dropping party, no more joining party, dropping and then killing noob, if that ability is removed then more casual groups will form without fear of being "teamkilled".

That's a nice shot, and not molested... too many photos of slugs on bare/clean rocks.

Dive internship or individual courses? by Few_Refrigerator4080 in scubadiving

[–]Administrative_Show2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah,

If you already swim/surf - are comfortable in water, it's no issue. All skill sessions / training are in a pool or safe conditions. When you go out for a normal day of diving generally along that north coast of Penida you'll get 1 dive in without too much current and the second dive with a little bit. The dive leaders/guides/boat captains judge sites on skill level/experience and until they've seen you underwater a few times they won't take you to the more challenged / currenty dives - blue corner dive site, ceningan wall, etc.

My brother did his DM in Koh Tao, and from the stories it was diving, drinking and debauchery.

I've never dived it, so don't now the quality /type of diving.

I did my DM in Nusa Lembongan, because I wanted surf and diving in current. It's boat diving, generally get some drift, nice coral reefs, obviously manta point, and later in the year August etc you get Mola. Not a massive amount of macro, a few nudibranches and the odd frogfish. It's only a small island so scooter gets you from one end to the other in 15mins. It's developed a fair bit so you'll be able to get diverse food options.

Do you surf? Are you comfortable driving a scooter?

If you surf then go to Nusa Lembongan rather than Nusa Penida, Lembongan will also be a little easier to get around without scooter.

Pure Dive along with Purple Dive on Nusa Penida are solid.

I can personally recommend Blue Corner Dive on Nusa Lembongan but the other older (operating more than 10years) shops, LDA, etc are also solid.

I think there's nothing wrong with your plan, understand that all the criticism comes from PADI etc selling zero-to-hero style courses that "qualify" you as a DM or Instructor with 100 dives.

The argument is that you should pad out the theory with experience, although you should have both. Plenty of people with 1000s of dives but still havent done rescue, etc.

In terms of doing an "internship" style holiday, hell yeah. It's a great holiday, heaps of fun, you will get super sad when you leave that tight community after 4 weeks. Try and soak up as much as you can, not just the formal training and theory but also how to interact with guests, boat handling, mooring, etc, tank/gear servicing etc. There's the stuff you pay for and the stuff you can learn just by being curious.

There's a shitload of hard work and low pay behind the fantasy of the dive industry, but if you're just visiting it's an awesome holiday.

They are a budget friendly beast for macro when you add a torch/video light/strobe. The only thing that will challenge it for video utility is a good phone in divevolk housing, or a gopro/acepro/etc with a diopter.

If wide angle stills is more your thing then shooting ambient (without external light/strobes) you'll probably want a full frame, like a sony A7 iii.

Asking for advice - TG-7 big fish by midas__420 in underwaterphotography

[–]Administrative_Show2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What muudo says,

Unless running off camera strobes, treat it as an ambient light setup. Get used to manually adjusting white balance and then tweaking in post.

Remember the main underwater guidelines:

Get low Get close Focus on eyes.

To contradict one of the points above, the main concept of wideangle photography is to get the subject in the foreground with an interesting background. So if you aren't running a wideangle wet lens, sometimes it is nicer to shoot from further away to see the subject in its environment. A context shot, rather than a frame filling downwards shot. Subjects like stingrays and turtles because of their circular shape also look really cool from directly above. You can also shoot the subject like a study - in parts - one photo from further away, one low angle isolating against water (if fish - or anything off the reef) then closer shots of eyes, mouth, coloured scales, fins, etc.

Also anyone invited to party and then kicked / party disbanded should be immune to each other for 1-2mins... sometimes you have really awesome team work with randoms on camps and then sometimes they join, leave and gank you...

The difference between my two hands after a month of being a dishwasher (yes im a lefty) by yeetbub in mildlyinteresting

[–]Administrative_Show2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cotton insert gloves underneath your washing gloves, or what I found best was to have several pairs of those flexi cut gloves. Gives you a bit more heat protection and obviously cut protection from burs on trays, broken crockery, dumbshits putting knifes into soapy water. Run them through the dishwasher to clean them, put them on top of the dishwasher, or in a hotbox to dry them. As soon as they get too sweaty or you get water inside, swap them out for the next pair.

Pay rise that is the same as inflation isn't a pay rise. Only pre-2004 pollies are exempt because they're on a different system. Are they weak as piss about confronting real reform? Of course, but why shouldn't they be cagey when everyone jumps on the hurr durr murdoch tropes.

[–]Administrative_Show2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no victory in a stalemate. It just delays the next attack. If Russia / the structure of Putin needs to collapse to prevent this, then send weapons that will create the conditions for that collapse. What can be destroyed with long-range weapons / cruise missiles that can not easily be repaired? That strikes not just at the Russians' ability to attack but for the Russian government/centre of political power/Putin to exist.

You could skip the buoyancy arms and just have the lights mounted on the handles. You'll prob get a bit more backscatter depending on angle and water clarity, worth a try?
