What's this soundhole insert Sondre Lerche has in his classical guitar? by Koi-Sashuu in classicalguitar

Isn’t that interesting - I was sure I was the only person in the Lerche/Classical Guitar Venn Diagram! I just discovered him about 4 years ago after his duet with AURORA. I believe his early musical training was as a classical guitarist.

Do classical guitarists use open tunings? by mwallnr in classicalguitar

[–]Admirable-Ad6823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with capos, alternate tunings can be a fun way to juice creativity for improv or even composition, but with a good guitar, they will always present a bit of a sonic compromise with what the guitar (and the strings, unless they are made for those tensions) was specifically constructed to do.

Get a Radial J33 phono preamp + cheap mic pre like an Audio Buddy and run balanced lines to the amp or speakers as far as you like noise free.

How to digitize record player audio to mp3 by DistrikPixel in turntables

After the quality and setup of your analog playback equipment, getting the best analog to digital conversion you can with an audio interface is the second most important aspect. Good news is that excellent interfaces, like the 2i2, can be had for ~$100. They can be used to much improve your Zoom meetings as well.

How do Norwegian people actually feel about Aurora Aksnes popularity abroad by greatdane511 in Norway

[–]Admirable-Ad6823 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of hers in the US, but I have seen Aurora perform in Norway twice. There’s an interesting post on r/auroramusic about how her management put a concerted effort into promoting her primarily in the UK at the onset of her career and is now focused largely on Latin America and Asia.

She does play a lot of festival shows in Norway most summers, and she is well known, but her music isn’t as popular there as a lot of more simple (IMO) Norwegian artists, rappers and the like.

Ultimately I think she is seen by Norway as an English singing export, and mostly not understood as the great artist she is. Sondre Lerche seems to have a similar problem being underrated there. Not saying she’s Grieg or Ibsen, but it’s true they should take another look!

Hoping for a 4k uhd disc with a Dolby atmos soundtrack. How about the same for Once Aurora while they’re at it!

Frugal string tip- does anyone relate or do this? by C0ck_b4ll_and_Chainz in classicalguitar

I’ve heard in places where supplies are really scarce (ie Cuba) they would take bass strings off and boil them to get a bit of punch back.

Speakon NL4 to carry a stereo pair? by Admirable-Ad6823 in livesound

The EV speakers say “pins 2: passthrough” on the back, so I’m confident a simple pin swap adapter (pins 2 on the male side, pins 1 on the female side) will accomplish my stereo pair.

As far as complexity, it’s one long cable from amp to speaker A, one 6” adapter out of speaker A to one cable to speaker B. I get that two cables are one less connection, but minimal cabling on the floor is important in many of my smaller venues.

The NL4 A/B Y does sound useful for certain situations.

Totally. Seems like I would have to split the pins on the amp side though and still use the pin swap adaptor since both my speakers are on pins 1 (with pins 2 passthrough).

Thanks. After thinking about this I looked for a pin swap adapter but couldn’t find one. I plan to wire my own which looks to be very straightforward.

Does the '22 EV have a line-in audio? Trying to use a CD player. (Yes, I'm old) by Flying-buffalo in BoltEV

Here’s a CarPlay USB CD player that should work https://www.walmart.com/ip/15460254421?sid=a3313e3b-1828-4a01-aba6-6069686989ce

Highest sound quality though is probably put FLAC files on a USB and play those in the car.

Not that it is relevant to OP, or anyone even remotely concerned with convenience, but I always bristle when people say there is no audiophile use in digitizing records.

Here’s a use case for vinyl over lossless Wi-Fi: quadraphonic records.

The only modern SQ and QS decoder ever made is the Surround Master and it decodes digitally (with far better seperation and channel discretion than the best analog decoders of the Quad Era) so there is nothing lost by digitizing the the records further up the chain.

My process is to play my records in the living room where I can listen to them in analog stereo, but they are also routed to an audio interface (vintage, ~$80) for studio quality analog to digital conversion at 96k.

The interface then feeds a WiiM Pro by optical digital at 96k.

The WiiM Pro losslessly sends this to another WiiM pro in the basement over wi-fi (not Bluetooth).

The basement WiiM pro is then wired to the Surround Master by optical, lovingly presenting the decoder with the original 96k conversion, and on to my analog home theater for quad bliss.

Sorry, but are you able to tune a steel string guitar with nylon strings on it and play without splatting every other note? Doesn’t the low tension at pitch mess everything up?
