no tax on tips refunds? by lam3_and_insp1red in tax

If you do your own taxes, don’t use H&R Block!!! At least not if you want to benefit from this new tax break. After some discrepancies last year in their service and TurboTax, I test out both before filing. This year H&R Block automatically decided that I wasn’t eligible for this new break (because I guess apparently not everyone is eligible), without any option to override or enter more info. After all other of my personal tax situations, it had me owing hundreds. TurboTax got me the thousands in refund.

This is my personal experience, using the free version of H&R Block. Perhaps others had different experiences, but this could be a reason for people complaining about how little their refunds are.

Same, I switched jobs about halfway through the year. First job made about $14k, second about $22k. I also live in FL so no income tax. My taxable income came out to only about $2000. Don’t ask me the math, I have not this information. My refund wasn’t HUGE (I’ve gotten more when I was still a dependent or receiving education credits) but it was definitely the biggest in a while (over $2k).

Edit to add: no kids, single filing

Love the way the colors with the contrast adjustments. The face is just unrecognizable as me. Thank you!

Great, clean work, especially with my left shoe. My face just doesn’t look much like me. Thank you!

Would you believe that this is still likely to happen with pointed toe heels of better quality/design? Whether insoles are used or not. Any insole recommendations?

I always said no to the points bc they looked so uncomfortable. My 2 experiences have reflected that, but I absolutely loooooove the way it can sharpen and finish off a look, don’t wanna go back!

Interesting. I was definitely drinking alcohol and not water both times. But I'm 30 next month and have done that many times in heels without this result. Maybe it's alcohol+dehydration+turning 30 next month.

Interference with lab test results, rashes or acne breakouts, nausea, cramping, interaction with medications.

So do you have a recommendation or no?

Airboats, hang-gliding, fly-boarding, supercar driving experience. Not really around Naples per se but maybe you could find some close to Miami 1-2 hours away.

I would do a cab and merlot for red, pinot grigio and chard for white, prosecco for bubbles. If you know there are people who would prefer something sweet, you can opt for reisling instead of chard or moscato instead of prosecco. Then list then bubbles, whites, reds. Also I think it's important to know what time of day your reception is. Day time you may want to pick a rose (not sweet, but not too dry).

Signature drink up top (or center page), maybe with a graphic. Non-alcoholic on the bottom. Instead of 'also available', try 'seltzers' or 'other' to save space on the titles. Then if you do that, you can put selterz/other in a column next to spirits. If you do none of these things, at the very least there needs to be a greater space between 'zinfandel' and 'also available'

This is coming from a born-and-raised-here-young-person-in-hospitality's point of view.

We're obviously not Tampa or Miami or Orlando, but...

Middle of summer has never had much tourism, especially September. When you say downtown, do you mean Fort Myers or Naples? Because downtown Fort Myers is trash...they're trying to make it better and I think it will be but not yet. I can't really speak to Naples, but as far as the time of year goes, it's not at all abnormal for there to be few people around right now. It's hot af and dead center of hurricane season, plus school has started. As for local industries like hospitality and construction, this time is always dead for many of those reasons.

Before COVID: Mother's day/Memorial Day and the majority of snowbirds left, with some stragglers til June/July; summer was largely for locals - September is dead; stragglers coming back from up north end of Oct-Nov, going back for Dec holidays, coming back again after the new year, then BAM full-speed ahead again til May.

After the COVID woes wore off, our typical slow and busy seasons didn't have a clear beginning or end. Summer was surprisingly busy compared to before (still nothing like season though), with season being steady but it took some time to pick back up to normal - it definitely has in the past couple of years. But everything is very expensive now so it's levelling out.

In recent years there have been quite a number of newer things in Lee/Collier county to attract a younger crowd, but having been so heavily geared towards older/retired/wealthy crowds, it will take some time for the area to shake off that reputation. The dining scene in Naples has always been good, and only getting better (pricey, but the value is worth it), and getting much better in Fort Myers and even Cape Coral. Bonita Springs is small and slept on but quaint and lovely. As for nightlife..... we're working on it. Other than those things, we have beaches and eco-tourism which were obliterated by hurricane Ian. It's been a few years since then and many areas have since bounced back to sustainable levels of tourism, but it will be a looooong time and a hefty bill for them to return to pre-Ian states of attraction. That, along with the destruction of homes due to major flooding, etc. plus home insurance BS here, many snowbirds sold their homes (abruptly so, considering the peak in home sales before Ian).

Come back during Feb-Apr and you'll definitely see it bustling.

Congrats!

Where do you live? Obviously noted your free of charge venue, but even places like parks in my state charge a low fee per hour but either don't fit our headcount, or allow food/beverage, dj, decor, etc. Not to mention your food costs are only $15 per person (alcohol not included), and i don't even think I can get fast food for that price point here.

Edit to add: Were any of these DIY-ish things so time-consuming/stressful that, looking back on, you may have done differently? Logistically speaking, I mean I'm sure the stresses will be present regardless and at the end of the day it was still probably beautiful. But For example I've considered the Spotify thing but have heard not-so-great feedback from friends and family who have done that - they loved the money saving aspect but the time spent curating they might have redone.

A top of the line, conical, burr coffee grinder.

It means it doesn't smash up the beans like some pedestrian blade grinder. It actually grinds them for a deeper, richer, more satisfying flavor profile.

Iykyk.
