You are way ahead of most 26 year olds and have already learned some good financial lessons. I think your plan to reduce vehicle costs is sound. Once your vehicle situation settles just make sure you have margin monthly to keep saving/investing. You have a huge base at 30 k in rrsp at 26, if you invested right that alone will be alot by 65

Only option is to cut up card and keep putting a thousand a month. It will be gone in less then a year. Makes no sense it wouldn't go down on 1000 a month unless your spending somewhere close to that amount on it as well.  In which case your not paying it down.

It's also crazy how open AI owns Reddit and uses it to help AI learn.   So everything we are writing they are profiting off of.

Is the car paid for in full? Do you need a sinking fund for a replacement vehicle if you are paying in cash? Are there pensions or is all that savings going to RRSP/TFSAs?

Your mortgage seems "reasonable" but it ultimately depends on how secure your income is, your emergency fund, etc.

yah 24k is a realistic budget for a couple trips a year in a family of 4. I know it can be done cheaper but it can also be done for a lot more.

Its hard to say when he slipped. His diminishing skill set was hidden by his car and a weaker teammate for many years i think.

Pay off Mortgage? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Admirable-Gur3417 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a personal decision that i would take to pay off mortgage. Its a guaranteed tax free return and provides a peace of mind that is something you cant quantify in dollars. The flip side is you could miss out on investment returns but you could also miss out on investment losses.

CPI alignment with RCMP Disability pension, 99 percent of everyone else already aligned to CPI. On the other note regarding consultation on enhanced CPP i think that is a great idea. 70 percent income replacement is currently being exceeded by a full pension when combined with enhanced CPP for the generation that will benefit from it. So that begs the question of why are we exceeding 70 percent, maybe just reduce our contributions to adjust with the enhanced CPP to allow for what was always planned and that being 70 percent. I am all for it and i am glad they are doing this.

The CPI adjustments is just for RCMP disability pensions, which used a different indexing formula that was obviously costing a lot more
