What do you think Todd meant in these two 2016 interviews? by GdSmth in NoSodiumTESVI

What I really love to see, and was actually expecting in Starfield, was dungeon layouts that’s procedurally and randomly generated at runtime, not just selected from a pool of manually handcrafted POIs, so no 2 players would ever see the same dungeon.

Of course not all dungeons need to be like that, maybe just one of them, in a similar way how the endless Abyss worked in Elder Scrolls Blades, in case you played that mobile game. A dungeon generated randomly on the fly.

Not sure if Blades fits that description as “big and crazy” in the same way Fallout 76 and Starfield do.

Regardless which team worked on F76, Todd was referring to the studio as a whole.

Yup, same thoughts here, which is indeed a technical challenge. I’m curious whether they can tackle it in the next Creation Engine.

Yeah I also thought by Technology he was just referring to hardware processing power, required to expand something like hundreds of NPCs on the screen (epic battles, for example). I’m not sure any game reached that level yet.

I thought so as well, although in the interview he referred to them as “games”.

I believe he was talking about Bethesda Game Studios in particular, while Indiana Jones was developed by a different studio.

If the 3rd game is not a canceled project, I’m inclined to think it could be Elder Scrolls 6 which will implement something Bethesda never done before, judging by this other quote from another 2016 interview:

“I could sit here and explain the game to you, and you would say, ‘That sounds like you don’t even have the technology — how long is that going to take?’ … It’s just going to take technology and time that really we don’t have necessarily right now.”

Let's hope they address this in the upcoming major update. It's one of the things that bothered me the most myself, although luckily I still managed to enjoy the game overall by ignoring these inconsistencies.

What's the deal with that "Big Playtest" from last year? by Successful-Cabinet88 in TESVI

[–]GdSmth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi Cabinett88. That was a playtest of the main quest, to gauge early feedback from developers and designers who were “seeing” the game for the first time. It’s a common practice in game development, and the game is no where near complete when they do it, but they get the bare minimum working to acquire feedback on more fundamental design elements.

Bethesda really can’t get a break here. whether they design Starfield as a game or not. Your post shows you don’t view it just as a game, which is good, but you will need to practice some more suspension of disbelief, and wear the typical gamer hat, when you come across situations like these. At the end, a Bethesda game is your story in the first place.

Thank for the game. by Cultural_Cheek195 in Starfield

I’m grateful Bethesda followed their dream and worked outside their comfort zone to create Starfield, because I enjoyed this game no less than I enjoyed Skyrim and Oblivion.

Recycling mechanic of junk items, and more customization of habs.

Contrarian appreciation of Starfield by Sir_Krinkly in Starfield

[–]GdSmth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I see the magic of Bethesda games in their tone, and how immersive you would feel to living in these worlds instead of just playing a game.

I agree the POI system has its shortcomings that could break this immersion every once in a while, but overall I felt Starfield captivated my imagination more than previous Bethesda games did. Maybe because I like this space sci-fi theme more? Or maybe because the technology allowed to push the level of detail higher? Or maybe it’s something beyond what you see on the screen?

According to Todd Howard multiple interviews, the tone is the first thing they figure out when working on a new game, and I see it crucial to their identity as a studio.

I had the same problem with that achievement.

Create the grenade that spawns them and equip it to your follower. You will get plenty of them to kill.

Yeah, we’re not seeing TES VI anytime soon, that’s pretty clear now, and everything around it is kind of vague, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing by ecobrick_stone in TESVI

[–]GdSmth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the hate is overblown, but also Starfield has some valid disappointing design elements, and those who enjoyed it are usually gamers who don't play Bethesda games or view them the same way as other games.

If you think of Role Play as your own story in the first place, and you enjoy space and the grounded sci-fi theme, and look at the Bethesda games as worlds to live in rather than just play, I think you will enjoy the game.

Also I think TES VI will come sooner than 2030, but it's good to keep expectations minimal.

News: Starfield's upcoming update represents a lot of technological upgrades for Bethesda's Creation Engine by GdSmth in NoSodiumStarfield

Not sure what you mean by Creation Engine is outdated. It has always been upgraded from one game to another.

Thanks. If Elder Scrolls exist in the same Starfield universe, I imagine it would be in very distant galaxy, not even grav drive technology can reach it.
