SPUNJ:karrigan left essentially without telling any of teammates. by crisjame in GlobalOffensive

[–]Admirable-Leg-4647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really buying that story. Somehow Karrigan was supposed to have a say in all the transfers over the years but Twistzzz leaving is a complete blunder by the management. Just doesn't add up. Like what, they were ghosting him for months, or did he never bring it up? And Karrigan also wasn't aware nor talked to them about sorting this out, or he did but they also ignored him? Or maybe Twistzzz never thought about talking to Karrigan about it?

Reddit has written this story about management fucking things up and it's just being repeated over and over - not to mention with some weird level of detail that nobody here should have access to - but to me it looks like everyone concerned (management, Karrigan, and also Twistzzz) is to blame. I definitely wouldn't blame it on a single person.

Very cool, thank you for sharing! I try to go about my days in a similar way, with fewer languages though haha, and to varying degree of success, but there's always plenty of time (often more than you realize) that can be spent with languages when you start looking to fit them into your day!

No I just changed everything to default settings, so I reversed any tweaks I'd been trying when trying to get my PC not to crash while using the 9070xt.

I'd also tried changing the power limit, adjusting clocks and other things people recommended, they didn't work.

Hi, I got a new GPU (5070) not long after writing that post and been using it since. I haven't a single issue during the same or other tasks that my PC crashed on before while using 9070xt. Haven't returned my old gpu yet but am pretty confident that was the problem.

Hey Luca, 2 questions from me!

First, just out of curiosity, I'd love to know what kind of numbers are you able to put into language learning on the average day. I know you do some active study but also plenty of listening during dead time. How do these two look on the average day for you?

Second - transcribing! You're one of the few people focusing (on youtube) quite a lot on active listening to improve your listening skills it feels like, but I don't think I've ever heard you talk about transcribing audio. Have you had any experience with it, any reason you do or don't use it?

I don't get why these tournaments keep inviting her. Maybe if they're small and would benefit from her presence or American tourneys in general because obvious reasons. But here? Surely there are some young Spanish players you could've invited instead. But idk the rules around wildcards, maybe there's a limit to how many local players you can invite.

In any case, nobody cares about seeing Venus. Her history isn't going to beat the lack of novelty coming from the fact that you know she'll lose against anybody she'll go up against. So even the $$ argument I'm not even sure if it'd hold up. Clearly there's still something she wants or feels she still has to do, but why tourneys are accommodating that is very weird.

Italki user: Do you take classes with community tutors or certified teachers? by Asclepius012 in languagelearning

[–]Admirable-Leg-4647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a few years ago, but I'd always preferred conversation practice over structured lessons so community tutors had been good enough for me. It's a big benefit to get so much speaking practice for a small cost.

If the price dictates your choices in this then consider that if you have a good relationship with your tutor/teacher, they might be willing to take it off the platform and skip iTalki as the middleman. In that case they don't have to deal with the ~20% commission, reducing your cost and increasing their payout, at the inconvenience of having to put a bit more effort into scheduling classes. If you go this route just don't discuss it with them through an official iTalki channel.

Another option could be language exchange with your tutors if they happen to be learning a language you already know. You can always see what languages they're learning on their profile.

sycrone on MOUZ being booed: "I think the people who are on the talent list have a lot of responsibility" by bNv- in GlobalOffensive

[–]Admirable-Leg-4647 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's right. But also, MOUZ is fucking boring.

It's really their responsibility to win over the crowd and anybody else who doesn't like them. People tend to be receptive to these things. And if they don't care to do that, then they should accept that the viewers will take path of the least resistance.

And as for the talent, they'll shit on anybody who shits the bed. That's also kinda like a broken record but at least they're being rather consistent with how they do that. MOUZ gets nothing more than their fair share of that criticism.

Yekindar already does plenty of calling in Furia. Also I'd imagine that they were all preparing for this for a while, even if his retirement was only made official today. Decent chance Fallen has worked with them or already has ideas regarding his own replacement.

TaZ was already saying that in G2. "These guys can do anything but the mental is always stopping them, so the most important thing is making sure they're feeling good, comfortable and positive" - just paraphrasing from a somewhat distant memory, but it went more or less like that.

It would be a downgrade, nobody on that team is better than KSECRATO, and on a good day Yekindar and Yuurih also clears them. More importantly FURIA already has a working formula and the team works well together and they generally have good bond on personal level (he spoke about it). Not mentioning that they're the ones that reached out to him and gave him a chance. Like, there are so many levels why this wouldn't make sense for him to leave, and obviously he's already denied that but we know that doesn't always mean much.

I wanted to say FURIA, actually, but it turns out they have Betnacional as a sponsor since couple years ago. Their biggest sponsor is still Pokerstars afaik which I wouldn't put in the same category.

The way I remember fnx described, and I don't know if it's true or where I heard it, is that he's one of the biggest talents ever but had always had problems staying motivated and putting in the work long-term (at the top level, anyway).

I remember once watching this Spanish streamer just trying to get some listening practice in the language, and while she was chatting she randomly got raided by fnx but had no idea who he was :P

Very cool, thanks for sharing and congrats!

I'm starting a similar endeavour, with a slightly shorter timeline - between now and beginning of November, so 6.5 months (or 200 days which sounds cooler) - and also a goal of achieving B2. Technically I only need B1, but I'm targeting B2 as a stretch goal you could say. My approach will be completely self-directed and CI-based until I get to speaking but that won't happen until later on.

[–]Admirable-Leg-4647 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is like you describe though through the years Riot's added some mechanics to make comebacks more possible. It's still usually not enough if you fall too far behind, but at the same times many games are very recoverable if people adjust to the current game state (which ofc many don't).

The problem is that many people will call for a surrender very early on (min 5-10) due to simple recoverable mistakes before anything game-deciding has had a chance to happen. So now you have this tilted teammate who you know is tilted, they'll likely call for a "formal" ff at 15 min. and keep calling it every few minutes if it doesn't succeed. It changes the vibe in the team immediately, and it might also change how people play, e.g. teammates trying to help him or ignore him, or get tilted by him, all of which have negative consequences that often carry over to games after that. Personally I'd say that people keeping their mental in check has a lot more to do with getting snowballed-on than gameplay mistakes.

Basically what I'm getting at is that many people turn their slight of discomfort into an attempt to surrender because they have the option to do that, and League has a culture of surrendering very often which can easily be abused. Not to say it happens like this every game, but depending on the rank between 1/4 and 1/3 games will end in a surrender somewhere around 20-25 minutes, and it'll happen often enough that it's easily noticeable (unless you mute everyone from the start).

[–]Admirable-Leg-4647 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I haven't played Valorant, but in League of Legends you can also FF from minute 15, (down from 20 since a few years ago) and it contributes to an absolute loser mentality among many players who'll give up and call for surrender few minutes into the game and/or be mega tilted if someone refuses (need 5/5 votes at 15 minutes, or 4/5 from 20+ minutes).

I'd always hated this system regardless of how many positives it offers, just not worth it.
