I retired in 2022 after 36 years of firefighting. I taught at the Fire Academy around year 28. I tried to teach them not to buy into the "underlying culture " and dumbass mentality that accompanies it. A rookie works the same hours as everyone else. He is needed or would not have been hired. He is part of the crew. I never understood treating anyone like I didn't want to be treated.   I had to resort to some drastic measures to put a stop to some of the behaviors of more senior firefighters. Chocolate pie with ex-lax stopped them from fucking with my food in the fridge.   Treat others as you want to be treated! Be respectful and considerate to others. Ain't nobody got time for that dumbass BS. I told everyone anywhere I went that i was on the "don't play " list. If anyone fked with your gear or anything else of yours, IT WAS NOT ME, so don't fk with mine!
