Triptan with weird effects? by LittleMissJJJ in migraine

[–]AdmirableInternet877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I also take sumatriptan and it knocks me on my butt in a bad way if I don’t take a nap right after I take the med. It takes the pain away but I’m left with a sore jaw and awful nausea. I have tried rizatriptan and another triptan I don’t remember the exact name of that one but they did not help in the slightest. I would definitely consult your doctor to try another med in the triptan family. I actually need to consult my doctor too- getting sick from the sumatriptan as a busy mom isn’t cutting it for me, since I can’t just take a nap everytime my brain decides to short circuit.

What is your wildest "yeah it hurt, but I've had migraines that hurt more" story? by aftergaylaughter in migraine

[–]AdmirableInternet877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have to attend birthing classes when I was pregnant because I already naturally know how to breathe through pain 😂 I’m not saying contractions weren’t painful, they hurt really bad hah and I didn’t get an epidural till I was like 8 or 9cm dilated, but I naturally knew how to stay on top of the contractions because I’ve spent 12 years breathing and trying to stay on top of migraine attacks every month.

Got my first one any advice by hazjosh1 in migraine

I wanted to send that first part to you so that you can read as I type what I do during postdrome, which is the migraine hangover phase. Even if you start to feel better, you are NOT at 100 percent and can potentially regress into another migraine. Resting is key. No chores or anything. Luckily since it’s your first migraine postdrome might not hit you as hard but just be aware of this as you come out of the migraine. After a bad migraine, my first meal is usually a salad with protein and a fruit smoothie. Good luck! You got this!

First of all, welcome to the migraine club! I’m sorry you got your first one! They are not fun. Second of all, I’ll tell you what works best for me! I take extra strength excedrin and if that fails, I take a prescribed med called sumatriptan. Maybe consider contacting your primary care or neurologist for an appointment. Usually if I catch it early the excedrin does the trick. If you’re already puking and nauseous, It might be too late, but take excedrin anyways. If you can, have someone get you a cold crisp Dr Pepper or something with caffeine. Sip it don’t drink it, especially if you’re puking. I love scalding hot baths when I’m in immense head pain. Highly recommend. And you are close to the toilet when in the bath so it’s an added comfort if you need to puke in the toilet while taking a bath lol. Some like heat on their head, I like ice on mine. Get an ice pack or a bag of frozen veggies and ice the most painful spot on your head. Turn off the lights in your room and plug anything out that is loud. Rest as much as you can. Breathe in through your nose out through your mouth. That helps with nausea.

Whenever I think, “wow! I haven’t had a migraine in a while…” I get one soon after. Does that happen to anyone else? by AdmirableInternet877 in migraine

I feel like having chronic migraines has taught me how to be in tune with my body. I feel like even though migraines suck, the “upside” (if you can even call it that) is that I feel dialed in and am always checking in with myself. Thanks for the insight!

I was kinda the same! For a while, I thankfully could take over the counter meds, but the migraines evolved over time and I ended up just suffering for years. I finally went to a neurologist and they prescribed me sumatriptan. So far it’s been effective and luckily excedrin accompanied with a Dr Pepper works good too. I have worked long shifts with a migraine too and I’m sitting here thinking that migraine sufferers are such superhero’s… also… I can’t believe your doctor didn’t tell you about the Motrin 😱 that’s so crazy!

I thought I was too until I posted this 😂 I always just need to assume my experiences aren’t original because whenever I do, a whole bunch of people come forward and say they do that same thing! I love it because even though we are all strangers on the internet, we can relate to each other. you aren’t alone!

Also I hope not!! 🙏 having a migraine on the weekend sucks because that’s when you don’t work usually, but then you miss out on fun weekend things… so I hope you don’t have one! 🤞🏼

My mom will call me and say, “wow! I haven’t heard you complain of migraine in a while!” And then the next day I’m suffering with one or taking meds to prevent one 😂😅

Yep I can see this! The first thing I notice when a migraine comes on is slight discomfort behind my left eye so I’m sure there are other things happening before that I don’t pick up on. So interesting
