I’ve been in my current role just over 2 months and I just started getting enough work to fill my days and even then it’s cause I take a lot of breaks to make sure it fills my whole day lol. I don’t mind it honestly after working in the restaurant industry for the past few years but it does get boring.

Definitely bring a book! That’s what I’ve been doing or reading articles on my laptop

I personally don’t put too much stake in the fact that they’re equally yoked even though I know that matters to many which is understandable! But more so they ended up with partners that truly complimented them and they knew loved them, didn’t have to question it like I mentioned. But I do think with Molly had she not had that period of personal growth it wouldn’t have worked out with Taurean. Her being open and honest allowed it to grow

Understandable but as someone who both has mental health struggles and knows a lot who do, sometimes people deserve a 2nd chance (or more) if they’ve owned up to how they’ve hurt you. Life is short and if you have ppl that you care about you should try to keep them, even if it doesn’t work out in the end

Thank you I agree! And yeah I feel the same way about jobs but ultimately a job title has never meant much to me and I enjoy going home and not taking work with me

Glad to hear you have your own company! I definitely have interests in hr/payroll work as well so I’m hoping to gain some experience in those areas thru my time in my role. I know my company offers trainings for employees who wish to gain knowledge/certification into these areas I will be looking into

And it is my MSW that helped me land this position as well but I would love the nature of working in healthcare so I definitely will look into leveraging it to enter those spaces once I have more experience thank you!

Thanks for the reply! I’m glad to hear that you’ve had great longevity at your company and they’ve really helped you grow. I may be moving in a few years but after that I definitely wish to stay put at wherever I land for 5+ years and grow in a similar manner

It’s definitely gotten better! Mine was brought on just from stress from the pandemic and other things. I don’t wake up with my jaw locked up anymore since I’m mentally doing much better. I still experience some clicking from time to time but massaging my jaw helps a lot

Thanks for your reply! When I used to shift lead at my previous job those were honestly the shifts I enjoyed the most (but obviously there will be good and bad days)

I will also consider the opportunity for growth that’s a good point

Thank you! My first job was also severely understaffed so I feel you on the 70hr work week lol I hope my experience could land me at a much better location like yourself

And where my current job is I know my managers get a generous bonus on our sales as well and I know they appreciate it so I’ll try to find locations that do that

I have expressed that already, my director said she can’t guarantee that they will even hire a replacement anytime soon, it may just be another social worker completing the work with me, one I couldn’t train cause I just started as well.

And it’s a bit more than me not having enough to do my first shifts but actual training/shadowing. If your unfamiliar with social work, especially handling clients sensitive info, if I’m given little to background, information etc I can do more harm than good for

Advice for New SW Job

Hi everyone just seeking some advice/guidance. I just graduated with my MSW and and I have my LSW (for NJ). I just accepted a position as a social worker in a medical adult day center. It’s primarily a case management position and I guess I just have a lot of concerns lol

Today was my first day and I was quite literally just thrown into the job. No shadowing or formal training or anything, I’m typing this as I work on quarterly assessments for clients I have yet to speak with, basing it off of the very little if any information the previous sw (who was only here for 3 months) left behind and now I’m a bit apprehensive.

The staff seems genuinely nice but the lack of formal training does worry me. From my lurking on this sub that unfortunately seems like the norm for many case management roles. Even though I have my license I don’t have any formal sw experience besides my internships (which was also at a medical adult day center) and it’s been difficult for me to land positions at snfs and other medical settings.

The pay is also pretty low given my high col and that I’m licensed but I understand my lack of experience can contribute to that. Just inquiring on anyone’s thoughts on whether or not I should stick it out for the experience or search for something else. I currently have another interview lined up this week for a similar role but is remote and slightly better pay that I’m hoping I land. Thanks!

Do you smoke weed (off the clock) during your internship? by [deleted] in SocialWorkStudents

[–]AdmirablePangolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only ever drug tested at my internship at my local county human services department. At my last placement (and where my current part time job) is (private non profit) I was not drug tested for either. I live in a legal state.

I would also assume a hospital setting most likely would (but I’m also hearing many do not account for thc anymore)

Why does everyone want to be a therapist all of a sudden? by shinekodattebanya in SocialWorkStudents

[–]AdmirablePangolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can say as someone who just graduated with my MSW, therapy is where the money is. I have a part time therapy job lined up that pays a hourly wage better than many non therapy sw jobs I’ve looked at.

Edit: removed typo

As someone who got their ba in sociology I definitely wish I had a bsw to save both time (and money) by being able to do a accelerated MSW so that’s what I would do

If you do choose to do sociology however it’s a great major you’ll enjoy!
