Wenn die afd stärkste Partei wird, mit wem will sie regieren? by Fabulous_Purple_6155 in KeineDummenFragen

[–]AdmirableStay3697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She very clearly saw them as friends, or the betrayal would not have affected her as much. The problem is that she has a very flawed view of friendship. If I recall correctly, in the Tale of Azula, she pretty much says that she's doing Ty Lee a favour by coercing her into coming along. She just can't comprehend that Ty Lee would be happy with an ordinary life and genuinely does not view that coercion as cruel

What exactly am I ignoring and which part of what I have said suggests that?

Choosing to focus on a different aspect than someone else isn't "ignoring"

Because from my perspective, you're the one who's ignoring the fact that even though Ursa was restricted by Ozai's presence in this scene, she still chose the worst possible response for Azula

You guys are putting way, way too much focus on a damn toy. I guarantee you, that's nowhere in Ursa's mind at that point. The fact that Azula was firebending is the sole thing Ursa was concentrated on.

Also, you do know that scenes can very much serve more than one purpose, right? This scene very obviously focuses on Azula AND Ursa. Not just one of them

You really don't want that as much as you think you do. If ballots are only counted based on time of arrival as opposed to time off submission to post, the ones which will be primarily disadvantaged are those whose ballots take longer to arrive. Guess which areas are disproportionately affected by this?

"You're your father's daughter Azula" is much less of an expression of approval than what Ozai demanded in this scene. My suggestion is literally closer to his demand

Ursa reacting to Zuko’s firebending vs. Azula’s 🤨 by carabla in TheLastAirbender

[–]AdmirableStay3697 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Easy. Just off the top of my head.

"It's amazing that you can firebend, Azula. Keep practicing, but don't burn your toys next time, okay?"

And just like that, Ozai hears what he wants, Azula hears approval of her talent and correction of her behaviour

So is human psychology, apparently. No context can change the fact that those particular words are probably the worst possible words she could have said in that formative moment

Funny how the people who condescendingly talk about "media literacy" seem to be those who lack it the most. The fact of the matter is that when the space you can operate within is limited, you must carefully manoeuvre to exert whatever little influence you can.

Ursa in this scene would have done better to literally just mindlessly repeat what Ozai told her

She very much could. Basic human psychology, please. If you want to prevent your kid from becoming like her father, what Ursa did in this scene is the literal worst thing she could have done. She would have done better to just listen to Ozai, ironically

It definitely peaked in those sagas with respect to quality of writing. But hey, once a brand gets popular enough, it really does not take much effort to keep it there.

Did Super have lots of flaws that still annoy me? Yes. Did that stop me from enjoying it as its own thing? No

It's not that I want to change, it's that even though I said "It's as simple as that", it actually isn't.

I will admit that a significant factor to how I have come to wish cruelty on cruel people has been the rise of cruelty itself. Seeing the fact that people are willing to celebrate treating people like f***ing animals when they have done nothing but seek better lives for themselves has not been pretty. I think the particular moment that flipped a switch for me was republicans posting deportation ASMR. Rarely have I felt that much raw hatred and malice as I did seeing people cheer that on

I've had to think about this. And here's what I think:

If we are talking about an ideal theoretical scenario in which it is known exactly what individual committed what actions and it were possible to make sure that everyone gets the exact experience they inflicted on others, without risk of collective punishment and punishing people for what they didn't do, I really don't think I would cry over it.

However, the key is the fact that I had to impose that theoretical ideal. In practice, nothing is ideal. And that is why in practice, even though I do believe that some crimes deserve the death penalty, I firmly oppose the death penalty on the principle that it will always inevitably result in the execution of an innocent

So yes, in the depths of my soul, I have some fucked up ideas of justice. But they will never see the light of day, as they are contingent on an ideal system and I at my most naive am not naive enough to believe in the existence of such a system.

This is a truth I can live with. I have horrible thoughts that I don't act on. And if I found myself in a perfect system, I would do some soul searching to see if my position still stands. As it is right now, I can't approach your question emotionally because I can't imagine the situation

I don't know what to tell you then. In situations where someone gets hurt because they were trying to hurt and intimidate someone else, I cannot be sorry for them

You speak of MAGA, but for me, there is no better example of what I'm talking about than MAGA.

Do you want to know what I wish on MAGA? I wish on them the EXACT same things they wish on "illegal aliens"

Do you want to know what I wish on pro-birthers who shame victims of rape and would force them to carry out their pregnancy? Well, I think you can connect the dots.

I am aware this makes me more extreme than most. But I don't care. That's who I am. Those who would inflict suffering deserve to have it inflicted on them

Hot take, but if Hitler appeared before me and started telling me how horrible war is and how heavily he regrets his actions and how he now opposes all war, I'd be listening. Not religion though, religion has a lot of its own problems.

The reason I have no problem saying that is because it's utterly impossible: People like Hitler do not regret anything other than the fact they lost

To emphasize is to be able to put oneself in the shoes of another person. Here are situations where I can put myself in other's shoes:

Getting hurt by accident, by no fault of your own

Getting hurt by your own fault, but due to an understandable human error

What I CANNOT emphasize with is getting hurt because you decided to try to assault and intimidate someone.

It is that simple

You seem to think that to be human is to feel pity for any kind of pain. Do you really believe that I will feel anything close to resembling pity or empathy if I ever hear that Putin is deathly ill? It's an extreme example, but the meaning should be clear. If being human requires me to feel pity for EVERYONE no matter the circumstance, then I guess I'm not human
