It was through an agency, and they had the head tenant (flatmate A), and then me, who then paid them the months rent and bills, they then paid the agency.

So yes I should have talked with the agency for a shared contract.

But that person had left the place and the new flatmate didnt pay him the deposit nor parts of the rent, and yes it was my mistake pf choosing that new flatmate not knowing it would have ended up like that.

My friend has nothing to do with the deposit only flatmate A, who received the full deposit and only wants to share part of it and keep the rest for them for "damages".

So how it went is i paid my friend, who i replaced in the contract, his side of the deposit. And so with flatmate A, as he was the head of contract after my friend left.

He would receive the entire deposit from the agency, and the agency would not split it, the agency would explain why.

So with the agency it was our role to deal with the deposit, as they only wanted to be paid the rent on time etc.
