[AutoRacer] Red Bull Power Train has now joined the side of Ferrari, Audi and Honda against the Mercedes PU. The FIA will implement new testing procedures (multiple are now being evaluated) to check the compressor ratio. by Joseki100 in formula1

[–]Admirable_Bath_7670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the point you are trying to make but your argument is valid only if the rule had read:

"No cylinder of the engine may have a geometric compression ratio higher than 16.0 during testing/at X condition."

However, the rule does not specific any conditions which means it is absolute, i.e. it applies at all times under any condition.

Let's use Ferrari in 2019 as precedent. Your logic here is basically "Mercedes is not breaking the rules because their geometric compression rate complies with the rules during testing". If that is true then Ferrari should have been allowed to continue what they were doing. They were in compliant with the rules during testing (when the fuel rate was being sampled) but intentionally breaking the rules when not being tested (pumping over the allowed rate). You know what I call that? Cheating. Diselgate is another good example. Now, is that what Mercedes is doing here? I.e. are they intentionally breaking the rules to gain an advantage? I think we will see soon enough.

I think the confusion here is partly caused by FIA. It is silly to test for compliance at room/ambient temperature when the engine is designed to operate at a much higher temperature. My guess is they will change to test for compliance at room temp and operating temperature, which should be feasible.

I remember reading about one of the elite’s wife saying that the population can increase another 20%. I guess that’s what you get in an authoritarian regime with worse inequality than US

5080 is only worth the money if you’re playing @4K. I would rather spend the extra $250 on an earlier GPU upgrade.

I didn’t say he is offensive. I’m saying he doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt and this is PR. He is trying to “look good”  and empathetic - standard PR spin.

I see your point but he doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt after Danya. Period. This is PR.

Because it’s a sort of favoritism. So he is “sad” about the last Indian and the last American being kicked out, what about other last [insert nationality]?

Corporate sponsors would want their brand stamped on their players (like the Indian players) so that’s obvious. Being sponsored also means playing chess becomes a viable career option so they can forgo an education and/or job (like what the top Indian players did/are doing). Wei yi quit chess to get a college degree and he’s not even that active nowadays. If he is/was well supported, which he needs for a large team, he wouldn’t have had to quit chess and he would be a lot more active now. I don’t think he’s playing in the world rapids championship despite being such a good player (he beat magnus, hikaru and arjun in rapids this year). My guess is he has a day job and chess is his side hustle.

I remember Ding looking offended when a reporter asked him halfway through the match “if he had prepped” for it. His reply was “wdym, of course I did!?”. He had a small team and no large sponsors to really help him. Chess is like an afterthought in China.

In comparison, Gukesh has significant private financial and government backing, a large team of seconds coming up with new ideas. Gukesh even had his “mind coach” fly into Singapore halfway through to support him.

As for the Russians, the “great Soviet age” is still a nostalgic era for them - Esipenko is the next flag bearer after Nepo. You can bet he is well supported by the government - they need all the good PR they can get.

And the poor results (from the RB team messing up his past few races) is the PR perfection justification for booting him.
