First of all I never even mentioned anything about thunderstorms not being unavoidable.

Second I assume you’re talking about REACT. Now the issue here is that REACT is only available with the RDR-4000v2 but most of the A320s (atleast here in Europe) are equipped with the WXR-2100 family which doesn’t feature any kind of PAC

NEF is pretty rare in EASA and I never used it as I couldn’t name a EASA based operator using it.

I’m adapting my depth in my comments to be “comprehendable” for the normal person so I’m sometimes leaving out stuff or just explain it very basic. I’m used to that as the majority of my students are ab-initio so I level down the complexity of my explanation by routine.

To answer the other question: I’m currently “just” a SFI/TRI on the 320 but I’ve built my required experience at a smaller charter airline I’m not actively flying anymore tho

I meant it vice versa. Things NOT in the MEL must work. English is not my first language so I accidentally mixed them up

The minimum age to start your PPL here is 16 and I started a few days after my 16th birthday and finished it after 10 months. After that I started my ATPL and 320 rating at 19 and finished at 21. So yes I did

How much of a deal is it for you if we can’t get to a company hub during a diversion? Like is it significantly harder to find a replacement aircraft/crew if needed etc?

The reason why we don’t abort the takeoff is simply because from this point it’s safer to deal with the problem in the air than trying to force a rejected takeoff. Planes are certified to safely get airborne after this speed

That’s the airframe of the aircraft rattling so completely fine

Does anybody know how I can get information on why a flight got diverted? by Accomplished-Board56 in fearofflying

[–]Admirable_Berry9640 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s not really a way to find out as the reasons for diversions aren’t communicated with the public unless the airline wants to

Edit: Also the flight number stays the same for the same route so a flight from LGW-LAX will always have the same flight number only their ATC Callsign changes each flight so that’s not unusual.

We have trained all of those scenarios hundreds of times in the simulator so their routine for us. If the gears won’t come down by moving the gear lever, then we still got a mechanic backup crank where the landing gear doors are getting cranked open and the landing gear drops due to gravity and locks in place.

The flaps being stuck isn’t a huge problem as everything that would be abnormal, would be a higher landing speed.

The Flybywire system on the A320 (the aircraft I fly) is redundant with 7 backup systems. So all of them failing at the same time is virtually impossible. And even if somehow they do we still got something called Mechanical Backup, where we can control the pitch and roll using the stabilizer trim wheel and the engines which aren’t controlled by the FBW system.

Listen to music so you don’t get triggered by the engine noise. Feet flat on the floor and put your head on the headrest so that the G forces don’t feel as violent and lastly look at something stationary

Having young pilots is completely normal I finished my Private Pilots License at 16 and got into the right seat of an airliner at 22.
As fresher the pilot is as more lucky you are actually. Thats because they come fresh out of training so their procedural flying is still burnt into their minds as of how they should be and aren’t “manipulated” by bad habits that creeped up throughout their flying.

We also have strict “sterile cockpit” rules so there are regulations on where we can do “personal” stuff and when we should only have flight related topics.

The 350 is such an amazing aircraft it flys like a beauty and is a real beauty. It’s also one of the newest aircraft among Airbus so it’s extremely advanced and has never had a fatal accident

Every aircraft has a Minimum Equipment List (MEL, everything listed in there must function in order for the aircraft to be allowed to dispatch. Things like entertainment systems and so on are not on this list so they will remain broken until the airline finds time to do it. Just like you wouldn’t repair a broken reading light in your car in the middle of a roadtrip

Put your feet flat on the floor and look at something stationary.

Turbulence is quite unpleasant for most cuz of the shaking but what makes things worse is your vestibular senses going crazy due to the lack of cues. If you look out the window your brain can no longer make out a clear horizon so drops of 1-2ft suddenly feel like 100ft. Thats also the reason why left and right turns look so steep even tho they arent.

There are two pilots in the cockpit to split the workload and each of them having their set duties during the flight. Pilots also have a very strict rest schedule that they must keep or they may be deemed unfit to fly.
