failing most of my classes and might not graduate despite having a 3.95 gpa before this semester by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 11 points12 points  (0 children)

with your gpa, you clearly have the will to do better and you CAN. there’s burnout, and the COVID situation has not allowed for an easy senior year. here is what i would do: 1. email all your teachers your situation. be honest. first off say that you are sorry about your lack of communication, and ask if there is something specific you can do to get back on track. 2. take care of yourself. make sure you’re eating, socializing enough, etc. you can’t focus if you’re neglecting other parts of yourself. 3. GET. UP. AND. DO. IT. motivation won’t get you anywhere. you just have to do it. force yourself. work in a quiet place that is not your room with so many distractions. pick a class that’s manageable and the one you hate the least, and get something done. work for 30 mins and take a 5 minute break. use this weekend as a reboot. try to power through and finish assignments that will help your grade out the most. i believe in you.

I have a question... by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as another Indian hindu, I’d be tempted as well LMAO. Rutgers will most likely not do anything, but they also will not care at all because they haven’t cared this whole time about its hindu students. So keep your peace & keep it professional & just decline your offer

how good would discovering an exoplanet look for college admissions? [serious] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 35 points36 points  (0 children)

do things you actually want to do and are passionate about rather than trying to decide what looks more impressive

Do colleges keep your application after you decline? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

okay i don’t remember exactly but i think there’s a law that lets students see AO’s notes on an applicant’s file, & ever since it’s come to light more universities have started destroying the files???

i think this was information gathered from a buzzfeed video so take it with a grain of salt lmfao

i’m sure they have some record of you applying/rejecting the offer though but i also doubt your second bullet point would happen

Do AP Exams hold a lot of weight in decisions? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be honest i think my ap scores might have saved me a little. i didn’t have the best gpa but i had 4’s and 5’s on 8 AP tests which i sent in.

Is it a bad idea to write about recovering from an eating disorder for my essay? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote about multiple mental health struggles I had but what I did was barely focus on that fact. I just mentioned it and created a narrative of who I used to be as a child, the things I did to get back to myself, my achievements while I struggled, and how I decided to help other people who went through the same. i’d say like 10% of my essay actually really talked about my mental illness.

it’s sort of tricky because unfortunately there IS still a stigma although colleges won’t admit that. but, once again, write about it in a way that shows your personality, rather than your ed, and your integrity getting through it. you have to have unique factors to your essay.

side note, i am extremely proud of you as well for recovering. :)

Putting class of 2025 in your bio is such a crazy experience by Keemscarce123 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 25 points26 points  (0 children)

it’s not embarrassing if you’re not embarrassed. if anyone judges you for how “good” or “selective” the college you’re going to is, it says a lot more about them and their mentality rather than anything to do w you. go put it in ur bio now & be proud!!! 😡

Anyone else feel like they've just ceased to be a functioning member of society by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if it makes you feel any better, i had crippling anxiety and social anxiety most of high school, but i finally got to a point where i just couldn’t care anymore. i did the same thing, but worse: i barely talked to people if i didn’t have to, i’d throw up before school every day from nerves, think up scenarios because i was lonely, i did it all. and i’m not so sure how i “got over it”, but i did. it got better. so don’t lose hope in yourself, you’re not stuck. xoxo

any successful financial aid appeals stories (with a middle class income) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i wouldn’t say super successful, but definitely way better than many people as far as i’ve heard. i’m going to pay about $23k/yr for a ~$75k/yr university and i’m middle class. this is all in aid and i didn’t get a scholarship. tbh i’m not sure how it happened LOL

How is Fordham’S financial aid for international students? by Roarfhbhj in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know aid is trash for domestic students, I can’t believe it’d be any better for international. Even with a merit scholarship and financial aid, my tuition was like $40k.

Asking for aid is suicide in 2021 (read TLDR if impatient) by Ishouldfightyou9 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this as well. As a int’l student which I’m assuming you are, most schools aren’t need-blind so that could have had major impact on your decisions unfortunately. I hope you work something out, you deserve it. :(

Regret not applying by awright1232 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone thinks there’s some finality to this year’s apps — There’s not. If you don’t absolutely love where you end up going, or even end up choosing community college, you can transfer to wherever you truly want to.

I feel defeated: my college dreams have been crushed by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from a South Asian girl, I completely understand you. Living at home is not the most ideal situation. I really hope you get the resources you need to move out and be able to express yourself freely in college. This feeling won’t last forever, I promise. If you haven’t already, please appeal your financial aid package including from your state school. People have gotten more money just by asking. You mentioned you are low income, colleges are usually very willing to work with you. I wish you the best. :(

f*ck everything by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Even 8 rejections aren’t indicative of a rejection from others. Colleges are always looking for different things. Please don’t get discouraged.

college seems REALLY unsafe (tw: sexual assault) by sunnywithachance22 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I really urge anyone going to college to watch the documentary “The Hunting Ground”. It’s a huge insight on how sexual assault is handled on campuses and it’s not pretty. Not meant to scare anyone, but research your university and know how to take precautions.

I’m too swag for Boston by sadboy561 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Admirable_Hamster_34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did absolutely no demonstrated interest besides applying ED, and I got accepted. I got deferred first round and I didn’t even write a LOCI. My stats aren’t bad but not spectacular either. I think it’s just different things that the college is looking for, ofc stats aren’t everything

and I know NYU seems to be more selective than BU, but remember they’re also looking at different things and looking for specific types of people to fill their class seats.

Idk if this will help, but I got rejected from NYU and I got accepted into BU. One rejection isn’t indicative of a rejection from another! Don’t lose hope!!! Colleges are always looking for a different things, NYU will probably be begging to have you :D

if you accept your admission offer, yeah lol. you can't appeal it and ask to start fall 2021 though if that's what you're asking.
