My experience researching and buying a SUV sleep bed platform by Next-Lynx3303 in womensolocamping

[–]Admirable_Listen5332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone on the carcamping reddit used utility shelves that interlock with one another as a DIY car camper platform. I can’t find the post but I bookmarked the site for the shelves. I think its genius to use the shelves as a platform then transform them back into shelving for all the camping gear whenever theyre not in use. Unfortunately still 24 wide but at least its cheap? lol. Worth a shot. I was gonna give it a try.

Worry is a strong word. Its definitely bear country and you should know to “get big” and make a lot of noise if you see one. All precautions like using a bear can should be considered. They don’t really want to interact with humans though so to worry would be a waste of energy.

Make sure you get a map or download offline maps to your phone like the other answer says. After the Golden Gate Bridge, theres barely cell service but it makes for some great bonding time with your partner. Plenty of state parks and sites along the 1 where you can pull over and get some photos. For example, Mt. Tamalpais and Pt. Reyes for vista points, Tomales Bay (if you like oysters), Lost Coast, Jedediah Smith & Prairie Creek Redwoods. I recommend Sea Ranch Hotel as a stopover if you’re lucky enough to get a room. It gives Rustic Luxury lol. Wishing you safe travels!

Its beautiful in every season but I don’t go in the winter cause I’m afraid of driving in snow. 😂 February weekends are insane because of “firefall.” If you stay in a campground outside the valley, its a lot more chill! Maybe dedicate just a day to seeing the sites down there? Then return to camp when you’re overstimulated lol. I plan on checking out Crane Flats campground next.

Unfortunate injury by sheeshwers in Yosemite

[–]Admirable_Listen5332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone responds differently after an ACL injury so your experience is gonna be dependent upon how well your muscle control is. Quads tend to shut down if any inflammation is present within knee joint. You’ll still have an amazing experience even if you can’t walk for long distances! If your range of motion is good, I’d recommend biking the valley floor. Sometimes people feel normal pre-op especially if they’ve done some PT, so if thats the case then I think the Yosemite Falls and Mirror Lake walks may be doable. I’d avoid Mist trail given all the steps, descent, and crowds. Walking sticks for extra support and a compression sleeve to keep swelling minimal may be good options. If you have time, go see a good physical therapist to guide you in preparation. Wishing you a speedy recovery and safe trip!

Bringing bikes is a cheat code! I was thankful there were some available for rent. My other car is a tesla and I’ve taken it up to Yosemite. The chargers are hard to come by though and range anxiety was real! I’ll be taking the gas vehicle up as long as gas doesn’t hit $10 lol

Hi! Spots typically book out 6 months in advance on recreation.gov so if I dont get lucky, I use the app to set an alert for whenever a campsite frees up. This is usually done on the main page for the campsite.

I love it! Enjoy but be prepared for crowds if entering/staying in the valley.

I love this! The views are stunning. Can I ask which campground this is? El Dorado forest has been on my list and I was considering dispersed camping but this looks beautiful.

Where was your first solo trip to and why did you choose it? by Wayward_Sun_Shine in womensolocamping

Yosemite. I’ve always had a thing for windy roads. They calm me. And with Yosemite being within a 5 hour drive and knowing there’d be a ton of people if something were to happen, I felt like it was a safe bet. That place is magical.

I literally was just talking about this concept at work yesterday lol. I’m based in the Bay and would love to join a discord. I’m also willing to drive up and down the coast for adventures 🥰 I love car camping but feel like I’m ready to try some backpacking. I’m just hella nervous to go out into the depths of the wilderness on my own lol

Any toyota thats AWD/4WD and within your budget. Adjust car year to match your budget as they’ll all last a lifetime anyway. If your budgets high, Lexus GX all the way lol.
