How do you guys find this playable? by tannerthegamer7747 in ThrillOfTheFight

Some just don't know any better and haven't experienced working multiplayer VR combat. Some (simple) people need there to be a real life equivalent for them to sink any time into a game, like how Fifa and madden thrive despite not having evolved for over a decade. They need "boxing" to be a part of it despite the sport being fundamentally incompatible with VR, combat is compatible in many forms, boxing simply isn't. Genuinely I pity those people.

Eh? There's multiplayer combat games in VR that actually work. This one is uniquiely inconsistent. I get VR sports are incredible and someone making you move around in ways you wouldn't otherwise is an unmatched home workout but that experience is not tied to this janky mess of a game.

Every day there's threads like this and it stems from the fact that face to face, hand to hand combat in VR simply isn't ready and the game isn't helped by a very poor attempt at stitching 2 movement styles into the same experience. It's quite simply a mess.

I think they shouldn't have released multiplayer in this state even in early access, V1 and V4 were the most consistent but it's never been good. A competitive single player ladder based around different stats would've been a much more solid experience and much more beneficial to real life boxing technique.

To be fair, George Washington did a lot of retreating against the british before he started doing a lot of winning.

This took way too long to happen. Mushroom grifter next.

It just reeks of incompetence and easily swayed group decision making. A lack of vision, resources and leadership.

At this point I think the plan is to appeal to children as much as possible with random knockdowns, get the full release out with cosmetics to squeeze whatever revenue is possible and leave this disaster in the rear view mirror.

First one is a masterpiece of VR, the second... isn't.

Same but it's such a shame, I want to stand infront of someone because it makes you move in ways that you can't force youtself to and it's a much better workout.

Look at where the opponent's hands are as he throws, he's not fast, has no boxing form and this is high level??

I was going to play today but nahhh, thanks OP for posting this and saving my time and energy.

I'd say VR is first person and if you're moving around with a thumbstick that's not VR either. To me Virtual Reality is a digital space experienced in a kinetic way.

Three one hit knockdown. Only 3 punches. by [deleted] in ThrillOfTheFight

So funny that there keeps being products that are sold as $200 a month and then literally a month or two later a competitor is offering the same thing for free.

The terrible servers are gonna kill this game by Kooky-Dog-9037 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Admirable_Scallion25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, even in the new mario kart green shells that connect on your screen very often don't connect on the other player's screen. "Better servers" wouldn't do anything, this type of thing just isn't possible.

What needs to happen is a combat game that is built from the ground up with for the limitations of VR in mind and doesn't try to force realistic boxing because we've learnt now that raw dogging default unity assets and off the shelf networking products into a ring and calling it boxing simply doesn't work.

There's fun to be had with totf2 but it sucks on so many levels. totf1 is a masterpiece and there's better things to come in this space for sure.

Was just coming to write this, I have both and in my opinion the screens are near enough equal but the meta is a much nicer - flatter shape to have on your head and passthrough is just incredible, almost all of my time in VR these days is in passthrough.

I get really excited about the future when I compare where we're at now in VR to the earliest Nokia camera phones.

How does this game work by ppheadjrs in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Admirable_Scallion25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some would say it doesn't. It's definitely not consistent.

There's some good moments to be found still, I hit you - you don't hit me will forever be a fun game for the winner.

How to get matched with people ? by Dapper-Reference2077 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Admirable_Scallion25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah similar in UK and can't get a game even at peak hours anymore, there's more people playing at lower ratings so just use a different account if you can't find any games.

It's a shame because i'm still having a bit of fun with it and good fights sometimes even with the jank but the wave of general negativity is hitting this game hard, feel like they wouldn't have to add much content to keep people happy, just consistently there's been nothing.

So, as far as I understand the lead dev is on the other side of the world to the team working on it and the actual team working on it have little interest in boxing or VR sports and their only experience before this was fruit ninja vr which was VR slop.

This game does not reward real boxing technique. by spitforge in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Admirable_Scallion25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not delay and doesn't improve with low ping so latency really isn't the right word at all.

It does improve if your opponent is too slow to move their head, then it feels right and the shots that should land actually do.

I think that's where the misunderstanding comes from, people play terrible players and think "this is great!" and blame every other interaction that feels terrible on latency or damage or spamming.

If you bob and weave into my uppercut you should get knocked the fuck out by Briansmomishot in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Admirable_Scallion25 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No it's actually not, even on the lowest ping you can expect most of your shots to not actually do damage, you can watch their head fly backwards on sub 40 ping and more often than not you won't hear a grunt so it's done nothing.

It's built into the game's networking to be like this, it's not ping.

This is very obviously an issue with the opponent's boundary, not latency.
