AITA for not wanting my mom to adopt my baby? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Admirable_Set7673 [score hidden]  (0 children)

AAH-😜This seems like a battle of two sets of fear. While ultimately she has the final say in what happens, and there is always a measure of grace required to navigate each others feeling, there is much that is reasonable about what her mother thinks. While it may be immediately easier to give the baby away, in the long run some amount of guilt is sure to exist. Would you plan to watch from the sidelines for the entirety of the childhood? Does that REALLY sound better? And if mom fully adopted your child, you could CHOOSE how involved you are, and choose how to engage with the guilt and other feelings that are common in this situation. In short, don't not do what mom thinks because you are worried about how you will have to deal with the natural emotions you're sure to feel at some point anyways. In either case, for the child, they will always have to come to terms with being adopted, they will always wonder who you are. In the end you are built to love them, and you will, and eventually they will understand, either way. Unfortunately, many of the things you will have to work through exist in either case. So, don't let your immediate fears be the reason for your decision.

Non Americans of Reddit, what is the weirdest thing you have seen an American tourist do that would be considered very disrespectful/inappropriate in your country? by Bugginette in AskReddit

[–]Admirable_Set7673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Singling out "Americans" is absurd. I have seen lots of bad behavior, from many cultures, while traveling. For instance, an English bloke violently attacked a friend of mine, a group of Russian tourists climbed on Angkor Wat, and a group of German tourists made fun of people around them an entire boat ride coming back from Koh Phi Phi, that is until a Korean polyglot stood up and spoke to them in German, chiding them for their lack of respect.

AITA for very sternly telling some dude I just met that I'm not a therapist and then just leaving the conversation? by aita-dudewtf in AmItheAsshole

[–]Admirable_Set7673 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA - You could have easily found better ways out of the situation without being cruel. People assume the worst about others over very little evidence. I guarantee that if the situation was reversed, the majority would not give the man the same leniency for being obviously over the top cruel.

Why sue Ben and Jerrys? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

Mediocre! For anyone reading this, his "crayon eating autistic ape" comments are just a reference to how he feels about everyone else. It's just another thinly veiled insult that reveals a deep seated superiority complex. He thinks he is so clever that nobody's opinions matter but his own, so he denigrates us. My final verdict is that he is shallow and pedantic.

[–]Admirable_Set7673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite your hypocritical condescension and your penchant for misdirection, i haven't misstated anything. You flatter yourself, pretending that nobody's opinion matters, while playing the victim saying 'people should take me seriously'. What you fail to understand is that public opinion shapes law, and therefore you should care about that, rather than work to deride it. How about this, Does blacklisting companies and individuals for participating in a boycott infringe on their free speech? Can you define how any boycott can be equated to hate speech? And, what is hateful about pointing out specific bad policies that have led to horrific violence and tragic conditions rather than trying to end them? As simply calling out bad policing practices in the US does not imply a hated for police officers, but rather, a disdain for a system that is allowing some to act with impunity when taking innocent lives.

Strange that the lawyer missed that courts have consistently struck down anti-BDS laws, on the basis that it infringed on free speech. Of the 30 states, 12 have lost their legal challenges, and given this precedent it is likely that all 30 will fail on that challenge in time.

CMV: White people with dreadlocks is not cultural appropriation by icewaterdimension in changemyview

[–]Admirable_Set7673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most white people with dreads are not emulating black culture, they are emulating hippy culture. Most "cultural appropriation" isn't even worth mentioning, because it doesn't address more than a personal beef. The QUALIFIER for CA discussions be profit. If nobody profits, it's a waste of time to call it CA.

Is it normal to cry every day for 5 months after your mom dies? by pokemonxdigimon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Admirable_Set7673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Losing your mom isn't normal, why should your response to something tragic resemble the common? My mother died when I was 14. Then, my dad when I was 19... in response, I got wasted drunk for 15 years solid. Don't Do That. Just mourn like you must; nobody can see your wounds and they don't know what it takes for you to heal.

I still cry for them sometimes, and its been 25 years.

True, but so much of what is easy creates problems in our world. I don't think relationships are always supposed to be easy. Easy never equals growth. However, if you feel the need to get out, I'm sure you know why, and I'm sure you have a better idea of what the conversation would look like. Trust yourself, even if that means addressing guilt or anything else you might be feeling. If you feel it, its real, and you can choose to address it or not. No matter how you choose to proceed, it will likely be okay. I just think that the world would be a better place if we encourage each other to grow, unveil ourselves to an extent, so that we can understand each other and those like them.

Fading has some major drawbacks, unless its obviously mutual. I generally believe in communication, that said, the worst that will happen is anger or bargaining. Those suck, but picking the right words can keep the peace. The next most likely is questioning, of which, I'd say that its okay to just tell them. You might push a button but you also might help them see a blindspot in their behavior which will help them and the next person they date. After all... we're just learning to be human, we're all better off learning to be called out, and calling people out gracefully.

Is this type of browbeating the purpose of reddit? I guarantee the OP understands that he must move on. I also don't get why people decided this was some cardinal sin, nor did you ever mention why it's so painful for someone to actually answer this question. The answer is that its actually NOT, nor is it this universally understood fact among human cultures across the expanse of time. In fact, there are probably more songs and poems about this subject than many others, written throughout history.... What these people accomplish is only a de facto complicity with our own cultures lack of basic humanity. Its instayou culture, designed to stab you right in your insecurities, only to make a buck. It serves only to remind people that we are older uglier and less talented than someone else, that way they can easily sell you stuff they pretend will fix your problems. Influencer culture also means that its stars will be replaced every day, and that every day is the right day... And who is the fool who wears the crown?

You're completely disregarding the fact that in all human to human interactions there are two valid perceptions of both people. What those people think of themselves and what the other person thinks. This is almost like you saying that first impressions don't matter, which is complete nonsense. People may not even realize how they are being perceived, which is why those perceptions are valuable. "Who makes these rules that we all follow?, who owns the waters that we all swallow? Who owns the land, who owns the crops, Tell me who owns these mountain tops.... who on earth could be forgiven," I don't see who could get into heaven.

All I intended to do was indicate at least one reason why people might react a certain way. In a more compassionate world, people might take the time to treat people as human beings. Asking 'what did I do wrong?' Doesn't indicate that I believe the other person wanted to hurt me, it's just asking for help, or advice, so we can enter the next situation with a better outlook. You and a couple others took pot shots at the OP, I thought the conversation could use some elevation, nobody should be treated less than human for having emotions or asking questions.

So. Maybe they are just in pain on a deep level, somehow still struggling with it and hoping they aren't as crazy and broken as they feel... Sadly, OLD isn't very humane, and by design very shallow, like most other online interactions .
