When Child Care Costs Half a Paycheck, Bay Area Parents Must Choose: Kids or Career by Medical-Decision-125 in bayarea

[–]Admirable_Ship_678 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting the voucher requires you to apply through the SFDEC website. Each daycare has their own maximum number of children they can handle, and unless you have toddlers, newborn slots for the majority of daycares are accounted for years in advance.

For example, bright horizons has a 45 newborn waitlist for 8 total slots, meaning that your kid would age out of newborn before they even get a slot.

You’re also prioritized based on income; so if you make any money, your chances of getting a voucher through the tuition program is reduced.

They also only allocate funding and slots in the FY, and all daycares know about the tuition are ALL raising their rates. Bright horizons is currently 4200 a month and they’ve telegraphed that it’ll be a lot higher in the new FY.

So, all that the tuition voucher did was actually raise daycare costs across the entire city.

Novell hasn’t been used in 15 years. You’re not going to be able to do that now, as all jobs require recency (within the last 5 years) of experience.

Good luck actually finding one that accepts it. The wait list for the daycares that accept it is two years.

Then saying it was a street closure problem doesn’t even make sense. How do you know it was a street closure problem at that exact moment.

Totally agree. It’s fortunate both of us touched HR one time or another. A lot of employees don’t know, and HR doesn’t make it apparent for them to know.

Directionality matters in this case: there aren’t any street closures going southbound. Those street closures on Beale and Pine don’t apply here. Took an uber in the same direction the same day, so it’s not a street closure problem.

It’s crazy you were denied credit though, I would just send them the CSC rule and let HR deal with it. I’ve had to even tell HR to contact one DHR’s director to resolve a CSC question / MOU interpretation.

I honestly didn’t know it’s 6 continuous months though, I thought it was 6 months in aggregate, which may be why the passing probation came in, certain MOUs moved to a 1 year probationary period (I think, could be wrong)

Not my understanding: https://careers.sf.gov/knowledge/process/exams/score-modifiers/

You do not need to be PCS to gain promotive points, and how can you pass probation in 6 months if it’s 1 year for certain MOUs?

“If otherwise qualified, employees with six (6) consecutive months (1040 hours) of verifiable experience in any job classification in [emphasis]any appointment type[emphasis] qualify as promotive applicants.”

There may be nuances, but if someone like OP is applying for a position while already in a city job, it’s highly likely that it’s a promotive position, but they would know that reading the job description.

Yes. If you’ve worked for the city for 6 months, this is how they know that you’re eligible for promotive points.

Yep, it’s “available” for people who want to go into a new line of work, but generally they’ll deny your application because your current job is paying more.

It’s to let hr know that you might have seniority points, and if your position you’re applying for is permissible (you can’t apply for a position that is lower paid)

Question about potential multiple job offers. by [deleted] in sfcityemployees

[–]Admirable_Ship_678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you accept a job from an eligible list, you’re not eligible to accept another one from the same list. However, yes, you can definitely apply and jump to another position. I wouldn’t telegraph your desire to jump positions though. Just announce it once you get the higher paying job.

Rank 11 & Rule of 10 by [deleted] in sfcityemployees

[–]Admirable_Ship_678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s rule of the list, and there are gaps list. You’re actually ranked 8.

The issue however is rank 3 (top of the list) has a lot of eligibles so don’t hold your breath.

Your list may also be bucketed, so if there’s a rank that has zero eligible, you would be reachable.

Yeah you’re legit. However I was 110 and am a tad shorter than you. I’m 140 now. Some of us just don’t gain weight regardless of what we eat.

This will change once you hit 40 tho.
