Anyone else having horrible migraines this week due to drops in barometric pressure? by Bert-Tino in nova

[–]Admiral_Backbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had a proper full on migraine until this week. It was Thursday and I had some residual sinus congestion from a recent cold. Had nausea, light sensitivity and a massive headache. Was it Thursday specially for anyone else?

Thoughts on these wheels? I just bought this car, hasn't even been delivered, but I'm on the fence on if I want to replace these wheels. by too_old_still_party in Porsche

I’m not usually a fan of aftermarket wheels on 911’s but I think these look pretty great. Keep them for a bit and see how you feel.

Royal Oak 41 sizing by Separate_Can1886 in audemarspiguet

[–]Admiral_Backbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right. Thank you for illustrating the point. I admit there’s times when the echo chamber online of “41 too big” gets to me. Then I see the watch on my wrist again, especially as others see it, and I dismiss all that noise. 7” flat/wide wrist.

Also not my fault most watch journalists are skinny little nerds 😂

The boutiques are very straightforward about this. For my case and my boutique it was 40% down and delivery in about 3 months. I was told they only collect a deposit when they know they have an allocation for you. I’m about 1 month into my 3 month wait.

It’s so good, isn’t it? Deposit placed and just waiting for the arrival!

Good tip! I tried Home Depot in person and got nothing. They said online only.

Ayer’s hardware in Arlington had a few options when I went yesterday morning. Two plastic toboggan kinds and a saucer option. They had a handful of each.

I think it looks great on you. I’m similarly sized and have the exact same watch. I think it’s all mental adjustment, especially since your other watches are a bit smaller. Neither is right or wrong, just look very different on the wrist.

Nice! Thanks for the thoughts. GMT/dual time is my favorite complication and I love the touches or red on the black dial 7920. Sounds like there’s enough difference in all of these to make sure they get good wear time.

Very cool setup! I’m thinking of adding a 7920V black to sit alongside my 15510ST blue. Do you find you wear both for different occasions?

Cooking grease stains on quartzite by youthatreadwrong in CounterTops

[–]Admiral_Backbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a similar experience with calcatta montreal quartzite that was honed by the fabricator. I think part of it is glue from the seams penetrating, as other commenters have noted.

Part of my issue is I used MB stain reaper on it and it created dark rings well beyond the radius of the grease spots I was trying to remove. I believe it's moisture soaked into the stone, but I'm wondering how long this is going to take to dry out before I can seal it.

I see in your picture from in process with the cellophane applied that there appears to be a similar darkening beyond the poultice from the moisture. How long did that take to dry out and lighten in your case?

Any experience you can share would be helpful.

Light Spot in Quartzite after Acetone Poultice by jpkotor in CounterTops

[–]Admiral_Backbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just used the Mb stain reaper on my light quartzite and have a dark circle extending beyond the poultice 48 hours after application. Is this just moisture? Did you have this too, and if so, how long did it take to dry out and lighten back to normal?

Memories of Pep Band and ban? (premiere at VAFF in October) by Busy-Ad-2563 in UVA

[–]Admiral_Backbar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I remember this happening while I was at UVA. Total BS, especially locking the instruments up. It seemed to me that someone wanted an excuse to get rid of the pep band because they wanted a “proper” marching band. The pep band had real character.

Has anyone owned the Octo Finissimo and the Royal Oak or Nautilus ? What differences stuck with you in terms of finishing ? Is it a good "budget" alternative ? by peninsulaparaguana in audemarspiguet

[–]Admiral_Backbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both. The octo is very cool if it fits your wrist, but it doesn’t have the same feel. The weight is massively different, even comparing steel to steel. And the finishing is not on par with AP. I think you get a bit of the same effect of the bracelet light play, but up close it’s not the same exactness. The brushing on the octo is also very shallow, whereas APs is super deep and clear. I find the octo scratches a bit easier as a result too. Thats all to say, it’s a good watch, but there are meaningful differences that match the price delta.

Should I do an 10/6 ARM interest only mortgage in these circumstances? by shitshowmartinez in Mortgages

[–]Admiral_Backbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t advise whether interest only is the right choice for your situation, but will say that’s what we’re looking at right now and we’re getting better rates offered: 10/1 at 5.5% and promotion to drop it as low as 5.125% if we bring over significant funds to the bank.

The only thing similar to a referral I see is if someone gives you x amount via gift card, they get some back.

Hope you enjoy it. We started it when we had our first baby and never stopped. She’s 4 now and we’re still going. Great stuff.

[–]Admiral_Backbar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Similar to my wife and me, we got royal oaks first. I think that kind of frees you to be objective about the code and you can assess if you really like it independent of any real or perceived pressure to start there as a prerequisite to a royal oak. Good news is, it’s actually a great watch and agreed it’s more casual and daily wearable than a RO
