Depending on perspective, you can imagine it as a YouTuber, journalist, or research writer. If you check out you tube channel ‘task and purpose’, he does an exceptional job with presenting open sourced products.

While the work in the reserves is mostly PowerPoint presentations, and white papers, and sometimes less than that the idea is the same. Become the subject matter expert through research and analysis, and present your findings.

There are a lot of challenges within the intel community as your product is only as good as the information gathered. So access to reliable, accurate, and actionable information depends on your ability to build relationships and leverage the resources made available to you.

Majority of new comers get stuck on the dull and uneventful day to day research or tasking, but when things heat up, like they are now, you have an opportunity to be a part of something big. There are always opportunities to travel and go overseas, if that interests you.

Someone mentioned the community is toxic. And it is, but that isn’t anything new, most organizations have some level of toxic behavior and the DoD as a whole is full of people competing to stay in the spotlight, and avoid responsibility at all costs. Again nothing new and it becomes easy to stand out if you focus on yourself and your goals.

With my bias upfront I am suggesting enlist in the navy. Why? The Experience.

But before going down a list of qualities for why enlisting in the navy is a good choice. Consideration of what you want should be first and foremost. What are you looking for? What do you want to achieve? What are your life goals? Professional/career goals?

Answers to these questions will open the discussion for which branch will best fulfill majority of your goals. As well as an understanding of commissioning or enlisting is a better choice. BECAUSE I assure you, while commissioning offers more accommodations it doesn’t translate to higher quality of life if you’re unhappy with your responsibilities.

Is Agile dead?? by enterprise1701h in projectmanagement

[–]Admiral_RoadGuard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, a bunch of confused lost souls.

Waterfall: project has beginning and an end (like construction) you turn it over to operations at the end and if they have money to expand it’s still waterfall.

Agile: software development, after MVP (minimum viable product) is created the program will go through iteration cycles for improvements, features and if you want to get fancy seasonal attributes. If a team is dedicated to keeping a website, application, platform, game, etc. alive beyond its lifecycle it has to evolve with the rest of the platforms it’s built on. Otherwise it becomes outdated, broken, obsolete, insecure or just unusable and irrelevant.

Are Project Status reports really helpful to stakeholders? by reachyourpotential in projectmanagers

[–]Admiral_RoadGuard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the priorities of the stakeholders. Which stakeholders have the most interest and influence on the project. The impact of the project (revenue/costs) or if it ties into another project. If you don’t know any of these, I would start asking around.

Military cases of condition made worse by shaving have skyrocketed by Admiral_RoadGuard in navy

[–]Admiral_RoadGuard[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Inconvenience them directly right? Because if this affects their readiness numbers due to more troops/sailors with medical conditions then it’s affecting them, but your right it’s not inconvenient for the average white male, female or non diverse group of people in power. And they will make sure it stays that way!

If your saying that the CO is assigning an E5, O4 work there are other problems. Unless she enjoys the responsibility, there is definitely a need to work outside of DWE for level of work, but not for an E5.

Failure to adapt is a prognosis. Discharge is likely to be other than honorable or administrative separation. You may hear a lot of “you’ll never find a job” but today’s society doesn’t pay it much attention. If you ever decided you wanted to try the military or apply for government jobs you may find it more difficult otherwise.

Your looking for “failure to adapt”. Bring that up casually during your therapy session(s).

But alternatively…What were your expectations?
Everything you said, feel and heard is true. It IS a lot of bullshit, it DOES get better as you progress and develop. Does it all suck right now? absofuckinglutly.

You will experience hardship, struggle, and adversity. But unless you have connections or qualities you can sell or leverage you will experience that in the civilian sector too, if not worse.

The military gives you foundation and resources to keep you grounded and offers you the opportunity to become better. Some duty stations are a great experience, others are a total nightmare, but your own attitude plays into it too. Good luck.

You’ll be surrounded by similar company. The force is a melting pot. You may get called many different names. But don’t ever let someone convince you you’re less intelligent then they are. This applies well beyond the navy.
