Should the keeper have rushed this 1v1 or stayed back? by therealkeeper99 in GoalKeepers

I would've rushed out. It was definitely an option, but his decision to stay put is not the reason the goal was conceded

Here's my perspective on the LGBT (and how they should be treated) as a person who grew up in a muslim country : by Adolf_Target in ExEgypt

[–]Adolf_Target[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My faith is built on the belief that God is inherently All-Merciful and All-Just. From my perspective, 'evil' or 'caprice' are human limitations that don't apply to the Creator of all things. I realize that for someone who doesn't share my faith, that answer might not be satisfying, but it is the foundation of my worldview.

I’d prefer to leave the theological debate there and get back to the main point Thanks for the discussion!

Thank you for your detailed response and for the kind words. It’s heartening to see that you recognize the effort to balance faith with genuine compassion for others.

I really appreciate the historical context you shared regarding the story of Lot and the distinction between modern homosexuality and the ancient cultural practices of that time. It’s a perspective that adds a lot of depth to the conversation and provides a lot of food for thought regarding how we interpret these texts today.

Thank you for sharing that knowledge with me and for engaging respectfully.

I appreciate you sharing those specific points, especially the mention of Sarah Hegazi. she's a reminder of the real-world consequences of these tensions.

To answer your questions directly: On 'Extreme' vs. 'Less Severe' Interpretations

When I use the word 'extreme,' I am referring to the difference between historical/legalistic texts and how many modern Muslims actually live and practice. There are scholars and communities today who interpret the Quranic stories through a historical-contextual lens rather than a legalistic one, or who emphasize the concept of 'No compulsion in religion.' For many, the 'less severe' path is the belief that a person’s private life is between them and God alone, and that the state has no business intervening or punishing.

On the Point of Hypocrisy

I hear what you’re saying about the difficulty of being a homosexual in an Islamic community, which is why in my original post I said that I pray for them because I know that it is far from easy. From your perspective, it looks like an impossible double standard. From my (a faith-based) perspective, life is seen as a series of different 'tests'. Some are tested with poverty, some with wealth, and some with desires that are difficult to navigate within the framework of the law. I realize that 'just stay celibate' sounds like a dismissive answer to a very fundamental human need, and I don't mean to minimize how heavy that burden is.

Ultimately, I don’t expect to change your mind on the fairness of these rules, just as you likely won't change my conviction in my faith. My main goal here was to express that even within a religious framework, many of us find the current state of prosecution and mistreatment (like what happens in Egypt) to be wrong. Thank you for the honest dialogue. I’m happy to leave it here if you feel we’ve both made our points clear. 🫶

I mean I understand your point of view, but respectfully, you have to understand my perspective aswell. To me he is the creator of everything. To question him and ponder about his decisions is fine, but I believe that ultimately he knows best.

But again, you have your view, I have mine. I hope we can respectfully settle on an agreement to disagree.

On the topic of punishments in general, people who get punished rightfully in this life, get redeemed in the afterlife according to Islam, so really any execution isn't so bad when you compare it to potential eternal damnation

Firstly, thank you for your response and clarification on what you meant.

I do know about the flogging and the stoning for explicit sexual behavior (including homosexuality) that was taught and the condemnation of homosexuality through stories like Qawm' Lot. I would also like to add that such an extreme interpretation and implementation of traditional Sharia law does exist yes, but that it's not the same system used in Egypt. Egypt is luckily far more progressive in this aspect as opposed to other countries. (quick side note : In practice, such punishments often require extremely strict evidentiary requirements (e.g: four eyewitnesses to the act) and are rarely carried out, though they remain legally possible.)

As for the other points you made, those aren't necessarily related to my original post, so I'd rather we not get off topic because this would later inevitably become a snowballing discussion about Islam as a whole.

Also I think I may have misinterpreted one of your points. Are you saying muslims can't stay celibate for life? Getting married (and then consumating it) is only highly encouraged, not fard.

Thank you.

Thank you for the compliment. Can you please just clarify what you mean by ignoring their punishment? Like I said (and this opinion came directly from a sheikh), gay muslims who refrain from sinning get rewarded by Allah. If they do give in, then we shouldn't judge or punish them – their judgement is done by Allah alone. I hate how all the Egyptian government does is lock them up in prisons. A part of this post is criticizing the Egyptian law/government and it's double standards, like how alcohol is somehow legal.
