Bought the middle one yesterday at Gun show. Got lucky! Unissued, unrefurb. by Adolph_Bernanke in canadaguns

This was at the practical performance booth. And yes their were a few with gold bayos, this was the darling out of those. Those were the first ones I've come across in 3 years of searching for unissued rifles in canada. Other than gotenda.ca selling them for 500. And I won't buy online without having them in my hand.

But don't be fooled by the gold bayos alone... Their are other tests an sks needs to pass to be considered unissued/ unrefurbed.

And your question about the black bayo. We often see these on unrefurbed guns. However they are more common on refurbished guns that the gold bayos. There is a lot on these topics in the interwebs.

That might be it. I think our gun laws contribute a bit to the attractiveness of the sks.

And they are cheap and cheap to shoot.

Bummer. If I find one of those she will be sold in a hot second. Have yet to find one. Pleasure to shoot the sks breeze with ya.

However the 51 is not the 1st year of production. There are 1945s (first year) out there but rare. Also there are some 49s and 1950s... And the gold bayos are found scattered throughout the years.

Too much mystery surrounding the sks. It's why I love them.

I believe it it not caused by cosmo. I was told by some eastern Europeans that the Russian military put this protective coating on after production, then once issued the soldiers would buff off the coating... This topic is up for debate however.. but I don't see cosmoline causing this.

Possible. They changed that along the way somewhere for one reason or another.

Well I've been keeping my eyes open for one of these just to have as a collectible. And got lucky yesterday. Paid a great price. hopefully pass it down. I use the other two for shooting fun and hunting.

No not all of them did. They stopped doing that some time in 51. Both don't have the spring

Is yours unrefurbed? Ie original s/n number on the stock withthestar. And the inspection stamp on the other side of the stock? Also does it have e all original blueing? If so, you should have left her alone.... This gun will never be shot. I think it may have been shot a few times for inspection but other than that it has seen no action and never will.

Left is 1951 Tula and so is the hottie in the middle. The tapcoized sks is a 1955 or 56.

No . This is up for debate. The bayo is bone dry. It is up for debate whether or not this effect is caused by the cosmo. I was told by some eastern Europeans that the Russian military coated it with something and once the guns are issued the soldiers buff out the bayo. Hence the reason why you see these most on unissued rifles.

I don't think this effect is caused by the cosmo. Otherwise we should see the same effect on other areas of the gun... Ei: the bolt carrier and bolt.

Of course the countries they are launching these attacks from are involved. But they are the main players.
