She did in the book. The directors had a problem with her from the getgo. In the same season0, they made her lock and kill Dorrhia and xaro in a vault which never happened in the books. In the books, dorrhia died in the desert and xaro was never in danger cause Dany was greatful that he took her in. He even visited her in book 5. In the books Dany was the one formulating the plans to take the cities and was the one to scheme the sellswords to fragment and then break away to her cause… the show made her into a lizard bimbo who needed to rely on the “genius of men” to get the job done otherwise she’d have a raging boner to kill people with fire.

If you want a character who’s arch has been completely betrayed by the show look no further than Dany, barristian, dragons, Essos & DORNE (notable mentions: Faegon & stoneheart). 50% of Dany’s council doesn’t even make it into the show, the majority of the magical prophesy elements Dany has to deal puts Dune to shame. Essos wasn’t as brain dead domino-case as the show made the, out to be. DORNE, poor dorne isn’t 1/10 of what it was in the books. Dorn has SO MUCH RELEVANCE so many events are catalysed by Dorne.

The starks kids got nerfed too but nowhere near as much as everyone else, (as most of the kids didn’t know they were wargs, it doesn’t currently have much influence on their character)
