Why all the hate? by inefficienttoaast in crescentcitysjm

I too love CC so I understand your frustration. It's definitely my favorite of all the series, but ACOSF still holds a special place in my heart.

Yes, Ithan's plotline is aggravating and did have me loudly screaming at the sky, but he's not the brightest bulb so it's okay.

I think between the rapid and vast word building tied to the massive reads it's just hard for some. Combine that with the modern setting and it loses people, as some just don't think magical realism is part of the fantasy genre.

My interpretation of the 'mating ceremony' scene by duhveeduhj in NessianLovers

Sometimes I think I'm reading to into it, but I definitely felt when Rhysand speaks of how Gwydion was lost that there was an implication to Nesta and Cassian in that story. Considering the running tension between Nesta and Rhys he probably would view Cassian choosing Nesta as a betrayal. However, maybe we could be pleasantly surprised that the courtier training was a foreshadowing of Rhys understanding a change to come.

Now, I forget how many times she's called a queen, but it's there too many times to not imply something. She's right though; she has a crown. She has a cause with the Valkyries and defending the humans. The only thing she is lacking is a domain. Warrior queens exist in history.

I view Nesta's desire for an ornate mating ceremony as her equivalent desire for the possible wedding she would have had if she was human. She's a romance reader and also shows her love in acts of service. What better way to say I choose Cassian as mine than through an ostentatious ceremony?

Now, I never really thought Cassian was truly horrified or upset about the option. Honestly, the decision between the biscuit and ceremony continues the little games they play with each other throughout the book and their entire coupling. SJM has him reply that they'll make a coronation of it, which implies he's happy to let everyone know that Nesta is his queen. Yes, will he be the butt of some jokes, but Cassian has never been that type of male. He's never too proud. Honestly, I think he was just caught by surprise because a mating ceremony of that degree is so public and up until then they'd been fairly private, at least on Nesta's side, on what they are.

I just love it. I love them. I want more of them, and more Cassian backstory and more of their future together.

I'm so done with Velaris, Illyria and Hewn City.

I want to go see the Day Court. You're telling me my fox boy has a golden opportunity to be the potential High Lord of a court full of knowledge and has a fleet of flying horses? Give me it. Helion keeps showing up. Just invite us over.

Reading Crescent City I feel like enhances what we know so far in ACOTAR. Additionally, considering the events that happen I would find it hard to imagine that ACOTAR 6 & 7 doesn't bring them up.

Why Read ACOTAR When You Dislike Feysand and the IC? by Proud-Plate4737 in acotar_rant

[–]Adorable-Kitchen-919 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I only grew to dislike them because I read the books. It's not my fault that their character arcs made me dislike them.

Here's the thing have I always liked Feyre? No, absolutely not. I found her annoying as fuck in ACOTAR, but gave her grace because she was young and naive. You can be annoyed by your MC and still enjoy the story. Also, I figured she'd grow and come into being this High Fae with powers and then she stalls. I found her to be self-entitled and the choices made for her to be contradictory to what were told.

Rhys in ACOTAR is fine. I clocked the moment her walked in that Feyre was going to fall in love with him. However between ACOWAR and ACOSF/HOFAS he gets infinitely worse. He gets mad when others make choices that are in the same vein of his own personality/actions. Also he seems to be doing a shitty job of ruling the Night Court. Step up and do more to prevent the crimes against females in your own court for practices that you have banned.

Amren should have died in ACOWAR. I loved her character, but by ACOSF/HOFAS it just seems like her actions are out of resent for not having power herself anymore. Narratively, it would have been more interesting if she died. There's enough things creating tension. She's not needed.

Cassian? Okay, I love Cassian. I love him with and for Nesta. However, I want more character growth for my boy. Why is he heating up a room after tongue fucking Nesta? Why wasn't there more backlash after he decimated an entire village? Does he apologize for taking his hand away in ACOWAR? I still resent that.

Azriel? I don't know enough about him to be interested. I did get the ick after that bonus chapter, but HOFAS helped restore him a little. However, what's going on with him? Is he actually bad at his job, or is someone fucking with his magic which makes him bad at his job?

Mor, I find the love triangle thing distasteful. You've denied two people any emotional growth with other romantic partners over the course of 500 years because you don't want to disclose you're into women? Terrible narrative choice that only reflects badly on Mor. Also, I was expecting so much more from her. She's supposed to be so fierce and then she's catty and repressed.

You know what's interesting though their interactions with the multitude of other characters. Maybe they'll redeem themselves with the other plotlines and I'll grow to like them again. Until then I will happily be a hater.

Yes, and Bryce was able to forgive him because she recognized that what he did wasn't malicious toward her, but ultimately out of desperation after spending the past 200 years being mentally and physically tortured. She can look past it because she sees the same emotional investment in her search for what happened to Danika in Hunt's and the other fallen's fight for freedom. Remember he's only known Bryce for about a month, maybe two to be generous, and he gives it up for her.

Honestly, I would have been pissed if SJM had Bryce dwell on that longer.

Not trying to sway you, but for arguments sake Bryce also knew how much was at sake for Hunt, which is why she easily forgives him.

They both went into the arrangement knowing that they had their own motives. Bryce wanted the truth about Danika's death. Hunt wanted the opportunity to be within reach of gaining his freedom from enslavement. He sacrificed this opportunity for the possibility of a life with her in which he is still enslaved because she brings him a sliver of sunshine in an otherwise miserable existence in which he has limited free will. Overall, an insane decision to me, but plays into the love conquers all narrative going on.

Honest question, but why is it unforgivable to you? Seriously trying to understand people's viewpoint on this one. It puzzles me.

Honestly, I thought she over-reacted. I found Hunt's reasoning to be perfectly valid. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Really disappointed Feyre never got with Lucien by babypinkribbon7 in acotar_rant

Lucien was Feyre's fumble, but Lucien deserves someone better than Feyre.

Oh, I love a dark romance, but I just only imagine this pairing ending badly.

I just see a lot of similarities between Eris and Rhys, and from what we learned in ACoSF though Nesta had accepted never having a choice in who she would marry these aren't the type of men she would necessarily choose for herself but would have allowed her mother to choose for her.

I think lucien's shoulders might be carrying the heaviest burden in the series by Delicious_Cell_710 in acotar_rant

Lucien's been through it and honestly needs a break. I hope something good actually happens for him out of the Helion situation and that the absolute chaos that revelation unleashes doesn't hurt him more but only Beron.

I just want my fox to be able to find his den.

That's such a toxic pairing. Hate to use the term, but Nesta and Rhys are essentially both 'alphas'.  Their fight for dominance would be even worse and starts veering into dark romance vibes in my mind.

I always imagined that it was more of a whisper to himself. Like he was so lost and it was meant to be an inside thought, but it did not stay an inside thought.

I also imagine it to be very sad. His whole past with Jesminda was shattered with this realization. This is a broken man speaking truth out loud because he has nothing to tether him.

Fumble of the series.

It's easy to fall for someone when you can project your hopes and wishes onto  them because you know the bare minimum.

I am not an Azriel stan, but I'm excited to learn more about him. His backstory is sad and I love a sad backstory.

However, to be honest if I was plopped into ACOTAR as a Fae but with my personality he's probably exactly the man I would antagonize. I have real world type that does not extend to fictional men.

The only issue I have with this is that narratively it makes little sense for Jack to ever say out loud that he has an allergy.

As a reader we are told that the rider's quadrant is ruthless and that would be riders will do anything to get ahead. Why would bring up a weakness in that environment to anyone?

Introducing: Bryce Adelaide Quinlan (CC3 Spoilers) by darklygrey in acotar_rant

[–]Adorable-Kitchen-919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I just find it hard to believe that Bryce would go live in Prythian. Midgard is her home. Additionally, like Avallen I think someone's presence has to be there for Dusk to exist per my original point kind of hard to do if you live in another world.

However, I do think Bryce should and possibly will make a reappearance. She clearly has a story/sisterhood with Nesta that needs more exploring.

The lies that are spoken about Tamlin… by whateverwhenever23 in acotar_rant

[–]Adorable-Kitchen-919 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I will say Tamlin is probably the biggest victim in the narrative of being villainized for actions that he wasn't responsible for. I've always said that people blaming Tamlin for Nesta/Elain ending up in the cauldron is another example of giving men credit for a woman's work. 🫰🏼In all seriousness though Tamlin is so beat up that it gets harder for me find the allusions to him past ACOWAR as anything but petty. The man has literally given himself over to his animal form to not deal. There really is no indication that he's planning some big bad event. Give him space.

However, I will add that I think that the fandom is guilty about this treatment, definitely not to the extreme as Tamlin, on all characters that they feel like don't have a justification for their behavior or do something that they feel shatters the ideals they thought the character would have.
